I ended up bringing about a third of the class back to my apartment to teach them how to use illustrator, when I’d never laid hands on it myself.
Considering how that class is going, I can suggest you look at a subscription to Lynda.com if you really want to learn how to use the Adobe products.

SO glad you posted this thread. I’m a college student as well and I’m having a TERRIBLE time with my professors. I started out being a Women’s Studies major but when it was made very clear to me that if I didn’t support abortion I wouldn’t be welcome in the department, I switched to Sociology. Now in my Sociology classes I feel attacked for being a Christian conservative. The teacher and textbook are extremely liberal and have a very anti-religion bias. I brought this up and was told that I was being insensitive to the students who are liberal and atheist. I am now going to switch my major to History because I have been told the History department is staffed with conservative teachers who are only interested in facts, not fluff.

I serious hate being an undergrad and can only pray that graduate school will be better.

Sedonman- Thanks for the site.I wish I knew about it before. My instructor was there.I am not alone in my opinion.🙂 College is hard enough without a poor instructor.I find it keeps me praying everyday:D

Catholicanne- stay strong. I refused to observe an abortion during my student days in 1988.I took a lot of **** from the instructor and the other peers in my class. In the end I won.I began to pray to the Holy Mother and the girl changed her mind:eek:

Good luck, and God bless. 🙂

it’s too late for me to drop the class, but I have found i probably wont have a class taught by him again, as I’m not an advertising major. I’m just going to try and tough this one out, then report him after grades are in, with the rest of the students who agree.

If you want to make a career out of women’s studies or sociology, try to be selective in finding a grad school program in those areas. Religious-affiliated schools like CUA, for example, would likely be more tolerant of your views. I know it’s hard to get ahead when most people in a field consider you an enemy, but it’s important to follow your calling, pursue your dreams, and do good in the world. Don’t give up on everything if some undergrad program doesn’t welcome you!

If you want to make a career out of women’s studies or sociology, …
Look a little further down the road and find out if there are any job opportunities, besides teaching, in these fields. This goes for any discipline. In my day, the joke major was underwater basket-weaving.

I don’t think you’ll regret not hitting the job market with a degree in Women’s Studies instead of a bachelor’s in History.

If the latest move doesn’t work, you may need to find a different campus. Every campus has a “temperament”, and as you have found, different departments within a campus does, too. The biology department can be very different not only from chemistry at the same university, but from a biology department at a university one town over. Even though Oregon State and the University of Oregon are both public universities, they have very different characters, for instance.

You can do far more with a history degree than most people think. If you have any questions about opportunities in history, let me know. I work as an Associate Professor of History at a private Southern college.

Well, the truth is that I’d like to be a women’s historian but I go to school online and they don’t offer a history degree. I’ve decided instead of sticking with the school, I’ll just change schools to one near me that does offer a history degree.
