Hey James, of course every Christian has to progress in love!

I do believe that contemplating the face of God, revealed to us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth is a good way to come forward in this domain :=)

But I believe that progressing in love also means letting go of harmful dogma, whether or not they’re present in the Biblical canon doesn’t matter.

HHmmmm Interesting…

Could you give an example of “harmful dogma”?
I think that this a a very interesting phrase and would like to explore it just a bit.

Of course for a Catholic we must give ascent to all Dogma’s of the Church - which I do. On the other hand, I don’t claim to understand all of the dogma’s of the Church nor do I necessarily see some of them as specifically effecting my daily walk with Christ one way or the other. (part of the KIS principle).

So for me - “letting go” might mean simply not being overly attached or involved with a certain dogma while still accepting the dogma and defending the correctness of it (to the best of my feeble ability).

Peace
James

Sola scriptura and sola fide come to mind…

Oh yeah, Sola Scriptura is definitely a harmful dogma, along with the belief that everything which is in the Bible is completely free of error.

This leads evangelical apologists like William Lane Craig to defend the idea that God ordered soldiers to kill men, small children, babies and pregnant women alike.
This also leads quite a few people to believe that God predetermined everything, even the crimes of the wicked and the devil who are nothing but puppets.

To my mind, this is profoundly blasphemous and damaging to the very soul of the person worshiping such a deity.

In an upcoming post on my blog, I will expose the deeds and incoherent, inconsistent teachings of Martin Luther and why he can hardly be considered as an example for our faith.

Hi folks, I’ve discovered with great interest your forum!
it is a very good forum;) moderators are firm against antagonizing and oppositional characters. There are different opinions and beliefs, but kept in a spirit of charity
I came to Christ in an evangelical Church, but now I no longer feel at ease there and go regularly to a roman Catholic Church, even if I don’t believe in the worship of saints.
I too come from Evangelical formation. There is alot of good Christians in those communities! And you will discover a better understanding of our faithfull departed brothers and sisters in the Saints
I’ve created a brandnew blog dealing with my faith and all my struggles, and I’d feel greatly honored to read catholic perspectives on it.
you will get that, for sure:D
My thoughts are constantly evolving (and hopefully improving!), that’s why I really want to dialog with people having various backgrounds and perspectives.
The revelation of Christ is further realized and defined, so I can see your growth in Christ in this manner. Personal experience and fellowship requires increased knowledge and wisdom. They go hand in hand. Guided by the grace of the Holy Spirit.
Lovely greeting from France.
Thanks, and welcome. Hope you stay long:thumbsup:

Sincerely,
Michael
