"Progressive" Priests Reject Pope's Bishop Pick in Spain

I read the lifesite article and Spanish articles on it. I cannot really see why the priests disapprove of the appointment, the only reason I seem to figure he might be opposed is because the Bishop is not a Basque nationalist, though he was born in the diocese and speaks Basque. It does not seem they oppose him because he’s orthodox, but because he does not reflect Basque nationalism or separatism or something along those lines. Lifenews gave the impress the priests opposed him because they were heretics, but that does not seem to be the case.

AntiChristian liberals and Spain hate the bishop for his opposition to abortion, gay marriage, and he seems to question evolution.
 
Another article claims to have interviewed a source at the diocese that says most of the signers are pretty old, and the younger priests are more in support of the bishop. The diocese seems to explain it as a generation gap.
 
I read the article then followed the link to the problem the Pope has with the Austrian church. I’ve travelled quite a bit in Europe including Spain and Austria. I think the Pope is correct when picking bishops who will teach what the Church teaches and avoid having national churches.

But, from the sorry state of organized religion in Europe the question of who is bishop is losing relevance. The churches are empty.

With my limited Spanish it appears that the future bishop did well engaging the young in his previous assignment. It also states that the older clergy do not like him and further that the average age of clergy in his new diocese is around 72. Someone like him to stimulate the young is important and he looks like a good choice.

The problem is that my Spanish is usually “almost” correct. A problem I find with Lifesite is that often it approaches a news topic with a prejudice in mind so frequently does not offer an accurate report.
