It seems that not only Catholics but alswo Progressives like to use this term. As Eleanor Roosevelt described the Progressives as Communists.Pope John Paul II said any good done by the church should be accompanied by the Gospel. Then I would say that social justice without the Gospel is Communism.

I am not sure what point you are trying to make, but the Progressive movement in the USA and other western “democracies” is profoundly and fundamentally anti-Christian. The Progressive movement is much more comfortable with communism and is antithetical to all forms of authentic Christianity.

I think that is what His Holiness Pope Benedict had in mind when he wrote in Caritas in Veritate:
Without truth, charity degenerates into sentimentality. Love becomes an empty shell, to be filled in an arbitrary way. In a culture without truth, this is the fatal risk facing love. It falls prey to contingent subjective emotions and opinions, the word “love” is abused and distorted, to the point where it comes to mean the opposite. Truth frees charity from the constraints of an emotionalism that deprives it of relational and social content, and of a fideism that deprives it of human and universal breathing-space. In the truth, charity reflects the personal yet public dimension of faith in the God of the Bible, who is both Agápe and Lógos: Charity and Truth, Love and Word.

Quakers were certainly progressive and ran progressive campaigns. While they certainly were not Catholic, they were certainly Christian although a little off the branch for sure. In fact, most of our civil rights and even the Bill of Rights were directly due to progressive Quakers.

For me, the word Progressive always needs to be connected to a goal. Progressive for what? Progress toward what?

I don’t know anyone who uses the word progressive in a conversation.

God bless,
Ed

That is exactly the point I am trying to make. The vice president for FDR Henry Wallace was a Progressive Communist it was found out later. In a rare move FDR didn’t pick him to VP again in 1944. 45 days later FDR died. It seems many goiing to Christian churches today are getting their Sauls mixed up. Jesus didn’t send Saul Alinsky to spread his gospel. He sent Saul who became Paul. Saul Alinsky worked for the god downstairs.

CHRIST IS RISEN !
