We pray to God the Father all the time! Have you never been to a Mass? We pray the Our Father at every one. Why do you waste your time requesting your friends to pray for you when you can go straight to God?
It would be called a multitude of prayers, by having a prayer request put out. Quite diffrent than Hail Mary Mother of God…actually praying to for intercession is diffrent than simply saying say a prayer for me.

It’s also a multitude of prayers when the saints pray for us and with us. Simply saying “say a prayer for me” is exactly what intercession is.

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for everyone.” (1 Tim. 2:1)

A one up? I don’t know. But Mary definitely has His ear. Let me take a stab at an analogy…

Let’s say you are fully prepared for a job interview - the perfect degree and the right amount of experience - so you feel real good about the interview.

THEN, you find out that the person interviewing you is your best friend’s uncle. So, you ask your best friend to put in a good word for you. You still must attend the interview and put your best foot forward - but now you’ve got someone else pulling for you as well.

So, asking your best friend to put in a good word for you is like praying to Mary. She cannot grant you your requests, but she can include you in her own prayers to the Almighty.

when I say a prayer for you I am a mediator between you and Jesus- I am petitioning the Lord for your cause. Same with saints.

Do we feel we are “getting a leg up”? Probably no more than you do when you have your pastor, or prayer group, or spouse, or anyone else you ask to pray for you.

I pray more now as a Catholic, directly to God the father AND the saints, then I ever did as a born again fundamentalist. My spirituality as a Catholic has increased 100 fold.

Matthew 5:13, You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing anymore but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men.

Sacrementals: Material objects through which God’s graces flow.

biblical examples: Dirt and spit from which Christ mad mud. His grace worked through the mud to restore sight to the blind man.

Christ’s clothing- when the woman seeks to touch the edge of his cloak so that she may be healed.

Face cloths touched by the apostles produced healing.

the multiplication of bread and fish- Christ’s grace flowed through these to perform a mirical- same with the wine a Cana.

The bronze serpent in the desert that moses was commanded to erect. If anyone was bitten by a serpent, they were to touch this and be healed.

The use of water to baptize- the grace works through the material object of water.

Sacred salt falls under the sacrament list.

From the New Advent encyclopedia:

In instituting the sacraments Christ did not determine the matter and form down to the slightest detail, leaving this task to the Church, which should determine what rites were suitable in the administration of the sacraments. These rites are indicated by the word Sacramentalia, the object of which is to manifest the respect due to the sacrament and to secure the sanctification of the faithful. They belong to widely different categories, e.g.: substance, in the mingling of water with Eucharistic wine; quantity, in the triple baptismal effusion; quality, in the condition of unleavened bread; relation, in the capacity of the minister; time and place, in feast-days and churches; habit, in the liturgical vestments; posture, in genuflection, prostrations; action, in chanting etc. So many external conditions connect the sacramentals with the virtue of religion, their object being indicated by the Council of Trent (Sess. XXII, 15), that it is asserted that apart from their ancient origin and traditional maintenance ceremonies, blessings, lights, incense, etc. enhance the dignity of the Holy Sacrifice and arouse the piety of the faithful. Moreover the sacramentals help to distinguish the members of the Church from heretics, who have done away with the sacramentals or use them arbitrarily with little intelligence.
