I don’t think any of you realize that what she is doing is very common among “good Catholic girls” - this lady is just a lot more open about it.

Many Catholic girls, when God does not bring them “a husband” on “their time”, decide at some point - usually when they begin to approach 30 - that they have waited long enough and will just pick “the best of whoever happens to be available”. They are not so explicit about it, but it is what is going on in their minds, hearts, and wills.

It is usually at this time they begin to date a guy who has not been to church in years, because the once-inviolable standard of “marrying a good Catholic man” has now been reduced to “as long as he believes in God”. But it’s okay because she is convinced she will “convert” him. Usually, he goes to church and maybe even RCIA with her, but shortly after the marriage, he once again stops going to church.

So, maybe these “good Catholic girls” do not set a specific date, but practically speaking, they are essentially doing the same thing - setting their own deadlines and going with “whoever happens to be available and willing”.

Are you honestly telling me you have never seen this, people? It happens ALL the time!

One of our family friends reported she “fell in love” this past weekend.

Her church volunteered to help out with the hospitality at a NASCAR race.

Turns out there were HUNDREDS of volunteers from dozens of churches.

There were A LOT of very nice people, all motivated to help the church. In return for volunteering, the race track made substantial donations to the church groups, the USO and many other “sponsoring” groups. There were a very large number of volunteers, many more than were actually needed, and that made the work pretty light. And since the volunteers were giving away food and beverages, and being helpful, everyone was in a very positive frame of mind.

And the interaction among them and with the racing fans was very … warm.

So, you never know.

Time will tell.

I get what you’re saying, but none of those girls actually planned out every detail of the ceremony and booked a reception hall then went looking for the last piece of their fairy tale puzzle as if it were an afterthought- the groom. What this lady did is a whole other step up on the crazy-desperate ladder!
I knew a woman who got married for the first time at 43 and said the wait was entirely worth it. I know I would have waited until I was 80 if that’s how long it would have taken to find my husband. He is the love of my life! I could have never settled for less than him, even if it took a lifetime.
Being single is no fun if you are very lonely and want to be married, but rushing into a marriage with the next guy who crosses your path is a recipe for disaster.

We should pray for this woman and the man who might someday be her husband–perhaps God will give her exactly what she hopes for! I pray so!

I heard about Project Husband on the radio today.

Texan Lisa Linehan, age 35, has her wedding scheduled for Feb. 15, 2011. She has picked the time and the place, almost everything, except for the groom.

Because Lisa has decided it is time for her to be married, she initiated “Project Husband,” an Internet and mass media blitz intended to find her a man to marry.

She wants a man with a great sense of humor, who’s intellectual and honest, who is upbeat, outgoing, who is very self-confident, and who would like to have a family and children.

Lisa has chutzpah, I will grant her that.

What do you think? Is this any way to secure a spouse?
More power to her. It’s not the way I would go but maybe she’ll find someone as outgoing or different as she is. This reminds me of the guy who decided to get married and let his friends pick his wife. They had a big contest at the local mall…well advertised (nationally) and his friends picked out a wife for him from the assembled ladies. I saw an interview with them about a year or so ago and yes they are still married and happily so. They even lived with his friends for awhile right after the ceremony.

What works for some may not work for others. What people forget is that for most of human history marriages have been arranged only western culture developed the idea that you must fall in love first. I prefer the fall in love first part and wouldn’t be up for an arranged marriage nor am I ready or willing to put out an ad for a husband…but still I can’t blame others for taking the inititive and trying something new. 🤷😉
