I’m a junior in HS, and prom in my school is open to juniors and seniors. The cost is $130. I know a girl from my youth group who is currently not dating anyone/ not going, yet.
I’m certainly going to go next year, but is it worth the money this year? Advice appreciated.

I guess that depends on how interested you are in this girl.

When I was in HS, everyone who went to prom paid for their own ticket because it was expensive ($99). Would you be expected to buy hers too?

It’s $139 for 2 tickets, that include dinner and some raffles.

I’m not romantically interested in her (at least ATM) but she’s still a great girl and would be fun to spend a night with her and some friends.

Oh then that’s not so bad. Sounds like fun. I would, but it’s your money 🙂

Remember, you will also need to rent a tux and buy her flowers.

Dark suits are also suitable for my school, but I get your point, and it would still have to be rented.
And flowers/ corsages aren’t that large of a cost- maybe $40 for corsage/boutonnière and bouquet, and I wouldnt do all 3.

Just be careful if you do go. High school dances are getting close to near occasions of sin nowadays.

I’ve been to them before. I know how to watch myself/ behave with a lady, haha.

Never hurts to be reminded.

If this girl is fun to hang out with then it sounds like it’d be worth it. Would it break the bank for you?

I never got to go to a Prom. Couldn’t get a date.
Actually had a boyfriend during junior year who was going to take me, but he ran his father’s car through the garage wall and couldn’t get the car for prom. Then he dumped me because I didn’t fit in with his rich social friends. He took up with another girl in my class so I had to hear about him all the time from her.
After that I gave up on even trying to date for the rest of high school, and never did get to prom.
If you have a chance to go and you know you can behave yourself and have fun, go for it. Make happy memories.

Why does it cost $130 to go to your prom? I wouldn’t spend the money. I’d save it and put it towards college.

I went my junior and senior year, it was fun and a time in your life you’ll never get back.

$140’s not bad for tickets in, dinner, and raffles.

I think I spent close to $100 alone for dinner junior and senior year for the two of us.

Going to a nice restaurant will set a couple back $75 or more (Chili’s 2 fer is not exactly where you go for prom dinner), so, including dinner in those tickets makes it a good deal.

Sounds like you want to go! Have fun! You’re onlyl young once. Having a great time with a nice girl? Sounds wonderful to me.

professionally catered dinner and entry for door prizes (flatscreen Tv, game console, an ipad) are included- I’d say that’s worth it IMO

I guess times have changed then because it never cost us to go to proms except for buying our wardrobe. Buying not renting. (Buying a tux means the boy can wear it to anything black tie.) No tickets. You ate before you left the house. So no restaurants. Parents drove the couple to and from school (where the prom was held) if the boy didn’t drive. No limos. Nothing extravagant.

Sounds like fun–if you can afford it, go and have a great time, you two crazy kids!

Buying a tux would be idiotic for my family. I’m 6’3, and still growing. Getting a tux that would fit well enough to buy would be hard enough, and I would most likely outgrow it.

What about custom made? That’s what my maternal grandfather had to do with his. He was 6’4".
