I recently heard two guys I know talking about how wonderful this organization (is it an organiztion?) was. One the guys is a Catholic. Does anyone know anything about it? Is it a “Hands Off” kind of thing for Catholics? The only thing I seem to recall hearing about it was that they had a huge rally, but that was a number of years ago.

It is a Protestant organisation. Check out ewtn.com/library/FATHERS/COVEKEEP.HTM (dads.org/aboutus.asp ) - St Joseph’s Covenant Keepers.
Thanks! I’m not looking to join Promise Keepers! I just want more info on them and what the Catholic Church pubicly states about them. When I heard my Catholic friend talking about them, I got curious as to what they are really about.
But again, thanks for the link… I’ll suggest it to my friend as he seems interested in this type of organization.

There is a Catholic alternative to Promise Keepers, which is (I think I remember this correctly) St. Joseph’s Covenant Keepers founded by Steve Wood.

No. It is a Christian organization.

I personally think it’s better for Catholics to enter into the wider Church, witnessing the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church in front to of those who can be brought home than it is to isolate ourselves in our own little groups where no one will see our light or taste our salt.

YMMV

Sorry, I guess I haven’t made my question clear enough… Yes! I know there is St Joseph’s Covenant Keepers… what I would like to know, is what is the promise keepers all about and what, if any, is the Church’s opinion/stance on this organization?
Thank you!

The US Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a document about Promise Keepers back in 1996, when PK was seemingly taking the nation by storm.
First, there is the example of Jesus who counseled his disciples not to forbid those who were ministering publically in his name, even though they were not part of his company.
Second, there is the teaching of the Second Vatican Council that “anything wrought by the grace of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of our separated brethren can contribute to our own edification” (Decree on Ecumenism, #4).
Third, there is the experience of Catholic men, including priests, who have attended PK conferences. Their testimonies, shared with the Committee on Marriage and Family, have tended more toward the positive than the negative.
Negative, or at least cautionary, points have been raised by Catholic participants as well. Though there has been no overt hostility toward Catholics, nonetheless, some PK attendees have spoken about feeling “left out” because Catholicism was not mentioned by name as one of the religious groups participating in the event. This could mask a deeper problem of Evangelicals relating to Catholics.
Several have expressed a concern that Catholic men have not been invited to serve in PK leadership positions, either as board members or as speakers at conferences. This, too, may signal an unresolved tension within the evangelical movement regarding the Catholic Church.
Moreover, there is a repeated concern among pastors and Catholic leaders that the effect of PK will be to lead men out of the Catholic Church and into evangelical churches which are more naturally favorable to the PK message.
A final point of caution needs to be raised about the understanding of the relationship between men and women and, in particular, of the man’s leadership role within a marriage and family.

Thank you AuntMartha and DaleM for the information… this was what I was looking for! Does anyone have anything else to add, or are we finished here?
Again, Thank You for the info!

 Yeah and go and adopt other ideas from other groups?

No thank you, the church is enough to build up men. 👍 No need to maleonly meetings.
