I was told by a friend of mine that a promise made to a Saint or the Virgin Mary would be permanently binding. I had argued that a vow could only be made to God, as stated in the Catholic encyclopedia. Now as i read through the passages again and i saw a reference that promises made to Saints are actually “grave” newadvent.org/cathen/15511a.htm. I don’t know what this means, wouldn’t a promise as such not qualify as a vow, and if it is binding wouldn’t a dispensation exist like any other vow?
