Hi,

I play the drums in a typical pop rock band that plays covers of popular songs. There is this certain song we’re planning to play that has lyrics that bother me, because they certainly are inappropriate (lyrics that suggest a man’s sexual attraction to a woman). Is playing inappropriate songs like this one in front of an audience considered grave matter?

It would be good to hear your opinions on this, but I also need a definite answer.

Thanks.

I would say no.

If a song was blasphemous, or graphically sexual or violent (e.g. some “gangsta rap”) I can see a potential problem.

But, at the end of the day, sexual attraction isn’t sinful, it’s how you respond that matters.

God Bless

Just kidding friend…from one drummer to another 👍

Could you give us the song in question?

What do you think? Why are you asking? I mean would you be asking us this for every song you play or just this one?

I guess it depends on how graphic it is?
What is the name of the song?

Thank you all. For those who asked, these are the lyrics of the song. It’s originally in spanish, so I translated it for you.

“I think I find you sexier today, or is it this hot beer?
Today I want your body, today I want your breasts.
And there’s something down here that shouts,
‘Come to me! Take me! Kiss me! Bite me!’
If you keep on dancing so close, and you keep on moving and smiling,
then you won’t be able to hide, because I’m so alone.”

Just this one, the other ones are fine.😃

Yikes

I’m not really sure what the answer is regarding whether or not singing this would be sinful, but I know I definitely would not want that song sung to me…I think most women would find that kind of offensive and a little nasty. 😊🤷

Yeah I think I know what song you are talking about…is it a Bando type song? Pretty popular?

Hmm, I’m not really sure what you mean with “Bando”, but I don’t think it’s the song you’re talking about, since it’s not that popular. It’s called “Sexy”, and it’s a kinda funky, dance song by a Venezuelan band, Los Amigos Invisibles.

It almost sounds like a poem about temptation, exacerbated by drink and loneliness.

Bahaha are you serious? You know this song? 😃
Nah I guess not.

Nah, I’m thinking of a Mexican song that was popular in Mexico and the lyrics were immodest.

It sure does, and the problem about it is that the man singing it doesn’t really sound interested in fighting the temptation.:o
