Promoting Sin by Buying Songs?

Ok so there are these songs I like from this band and before I went off and bought them I thouhgt I’d make sure there was nothing questionable about the songs/lyrics and such. Everything seemed ok until I saw a piture from one of their music videos that seemed a bit odd and rather questionable but I couldn’t exactly tell what it portrayed. I looked up the video, watched it and saw where this picture might fit in the video but still wasn’t sure since I thought they might have cut this particular part or something for public purposes. I drove myself insane trying to relocate the pic so I could compare it to the video but couldn’t find it:banghead:. So my question is, how far should one look into the moral qualifications (for lack of better term) of an artist/movie/whatever before spending one’s money on it? I believe I remember reading something here about it being quite wrong, perhaps gravely so, to watch a morbid movie simply because one paid for the production and promotion or something like that. I know not everyone is squeaky clean in their motives and all but I also don’t want to pay for something that could lead other’s to sin.

Just my spontaneous opinion is that we can never know exactly what somebody’s motives are/were. PLUS if we searched out people’s pasts we would probably find something morally questionable with most evrybody (ourselves included) 😉 . So I do not think we have to go as far as you went. Otherwise I guess we caouldn’t buy/watch/listen to hardly anything anymore.

I try and look into lyrics as well-I hate hearing profanity when I can avoid it. Taking time to make sure music is what you want to hear, in my opinion, is a good thing. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You aren’t being scrupulous, you are making sure music is up to your standards, and I see nothing wrong with that.

That’s fine-as long as it remains a personal decision. As soon as people start saying that music, movies or books should be banned because the content does not agree with their personal values, that’s a whole 'nother thing.

I disagree. We as a society have the right to decide that certain materials (for example, pornographic media) are dangerous to society and to make them illegal.

I remember from other posts that S_V7 does have a problem with scrupulosity.
(To which I can relate)😉

I would say if it starts being an issue that causes much anxiety, for somebody who knows he suffers from scrupulosity, it is healthier to let go of the obsessive thoughts.
