Hi Everyone, I am kind of straight forward person. So i donot want any person to be in doubt what i said by indirect. So i like to talk direct. Proof for the Bible. My question to all post of this thread. About the authenctication of bible. There is no one there who took the responsibilty to correct or gettogether bible in one and last book. like in Muslim caliph usman time he took responsibity with the help of friends(shahabi) of prophet of islam to collect all Allah wahi (revelation) coz in his time there is one point when there is about to lose the Quran. There were people i donot want to mention in struggle trying to do what happened to bible. So Usman ordered to burn all the copies of Quran and he come up with Quran which is now in the whole world which is unchangeable and Allah took responsibity for it not to lose it. Caliph Usman is one of the ten shahbi(friend) of prophet who heard the news from prophet of islam the news of to enter into the paradise in his life time. And note Quran didn’t come in one time like bible Quran come in a duration little by little on Prophet of Islam. So my fellow Christian QURAN IS THE BIGGEST MIRACLE or you can say PROPHECY of Prophet MUHAMMAD pbuh.🙂 When i know more in my mind i will right here. Rightnow is enough.

The bible is the inspired Word of God. The bible was already in existance before the Quran.

The inspired word of God makes a prophecy about your Quran.

You believe the angel Gabriel revealed the Quran to your prophet.

My prophet from the New Testament prophecised about your prophet and his revelation from an angel from heaven. My prophet revealed this to the Christians 400 years before the incident between the Angel Gabriel and your prophet.

I am free to read your Quran, but Christianity teaches me not to believe your Quran because of how it was revealed to your prophet.

The inspired Word of God states the following for all Christians and you also, and anyone who obeys the Creator, the Almighty Father in heaven to which his children know him by “Abba” Father.

**Galatians 1:6 I am amazed that you are so quickly forsaking the one who called you by (the) grace (of Christ) for a different gospel
7
(not that there is another). But there are some who are disturbing you and wish to pervert the gospel of Christ.
8
But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach (to you) a gospel other than the one that we preached to you, let that one be accursed! 7
9
As we have said before, and now I say again, if anyone preaches to you a gospel other than the one that you received, let that one be accursed! **

The New Testament is just that, it is a written witness to the revealed teachings of Jesus Christ the anointed one. What you call the bible, is recorded testimony of faith, morals, and teachings of eyewitness accounts of miracles, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We as Christians understand that we are to live out this recorded faith, in order that the Word of God is lived out in each of us. In other words The Word of God becomes flesh, and the Word of God made flesh is alive.

Sister Amy, God told me to tell you that every word in the Koran is a lie, including “a”, “an”, and “the”.

I confess there is no God but Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and Jesus is God Incarnate!

Many members of this forum have criticized the Qur’an saying that there is no proof of its authenticity. No proof that God revealed it through Gabriel, no proof Gabriel delivered it to Muhammad, no proof Muhammad was telling the truth, no proof that the Qur’an has been preserved.

I am therefore curious…

What sort of “proof” is enough to make a person believe in the Bible?
Frankly the Quran does not concern me. I don’t know Arabic and Muslims would say the translation is not like the real thing. So that leaves me with not much choice with your holy book. Anyway, I tried to scour through it sometimes but I find it boring so I would rather hear what Muslims say but then I don’t like what I hear.

But then again many Muslim posters who come here say that Jesus did not die on the cross, that he is not the Son of God and that the Bible is corrupt. Amy, can you ever imagine what it means to the Christians when you say that Jesus is not God or did not die on the cross?

It’s blasphemy! It’s gross attack on the core belief of Christianity. So a few souls like us would ask, who say so? And we found out it was the Quran which was revealed by Mohammad who heard it from an angel which heard it from Allah.

And so we want to find out the credibility of the source of the person who brought about these statements because of the great implication they have on our belief. That is where we find out that there is no credibility at all in Mohammad or the Quran to override what are said in the Bible. The identity of the angel was suspect and more so, Allah, since he had not shown himself but it was always the angel.

There was no prophecy about Mohammad in the earlier scriptures which he claimed to believe. The claim that he was prophesized was based on an indirect nuance that it looks like mere speculation. For a person or a book that claim to contradict the Bible that came before it and was written by people who were contemporaries of Jesus, we would like to see some evidence of what basis the claims were made. There were none. So that’s how it is.

As for the proof of the Bible, well, it is the same as for the proof that Mohammad was responsible for the Quran. That being equal, it is a matter whether we believe the Bible or the Quran. And all logic point to the Bible.

Holy Scripture–the Word of God

This is only equivalent to Muslim Friday prayers and khutbahs–but Muslims pray at the mosque not just every week, every day, but five times a day! And you say millions more attend Christmas and Easter? Muslims experience a similar situation–millions more attending the Eid prayers (twice a year!). We have to rent a soccer field to hold this prayer–5-6 thousand people here! And every week our mosque brings in 1500 people for jummah. Usually 150 people for an average prayer. And this is not even one of the largest mosques in the country. Probably not even the largest in the state.
Well apparently only some Muslims pray at the mosque every single day (since you said you generally have 150 for an average prayer versus 1500 for Friday prayers), just like some Catholics attend mass every day, and say the Divine office (prayed 6 times a day).
At the same time?
Regarding Pilgrims: Why is it important that the pilgrimages be all made at the same time? Christianity does not have any requirement to perform a pilgrimage, so people do them for their own spiritual growth and are done throughout the year. That being said, Easter and Christmas tend to be particularly popular times for pilgrimages.
At every moment,
somewhere in the world, there is a Muslim praying, facing the Ka’ba. That is something!
And at every moment somewhere in the world there is a Christian praying, or attending services; mass is being said somewhere in the world. Of course there are also Buddhists meditating and reciting sutras, Jews studying the Torah, etc. Islam is far from unique in its ability to inspire devotion. I will grant that Muslims do have a unique compulsion to face a particular direction, but I hardly see that as evidence of divine favor.
Regarding my earlier statement claiming that there was a difference between martyrdom in Islam and Christianity: The why is simple, Islam seems to celebrate as martyrs not just those who died rather than deny their belief, but those who died in wars of conquest. To my mind, a religion of peace (and without compulsion) cannot be spread by the sword.
Isn’t that interesting. More proof for the validity of Islam, it seems to me.
I really fail to see how Islamic conquest proves the validity of Islam. By that standard Genghis Kahn must also have been a great prophet since he conquored more in his life than Islam did in Muhammed’s. Further though, if you are going to claim military success as a sign of being from God, then how do you explain the Battle of Tours? The Reconquista?
Would you like to tell the woman stabbed in her abdomen that it’s not enough torture? Frankly this seems to me again a proof of Islam.
How about St. Stephen? Stoned for proclaiming the Gospel.
St. Paul? Beheaded for proclaiming the Gospel.
St. Peter? Crucified upside down for proclaiming the Gospel.

Shall I go on? I can list plenty of more Saints who are martyrs and many of them died in ways so horrible that being stabbed in the abdomen would seem easy in comparison. Further, they did not die with a sword in their hand, but rather only with the word of God at their lips. Very few Christians believe martyrdom is something that can be achieved with a sword in their hand; unfortunately as the suicide bombers in Iraq and Israel show, the same is not true of Muslims.
Didn’t I mention the Battle of Badr? Let me add the Battle of Uhud.
I am sorry, I don’t take military victory, or losses as evidence of God. See my reference to Genghis Kahn above!

How could there be one person? The Bible is larger than one person because it is the word of God. Further it was written over a period of more than 1000 year!. However, over time, Christians, relying on the Tradition that was handed down to them by Jesus and the Apostles, assembled the canon we know today as the Bible.
like in Muslim caliph usman time he took responsibity with the help of friends(shahabi) of prophet of islam to collect all Allah wahi (revelation) coz in his time there is one point when there is about to lose the Quran. So what we are saying here is that all the pre-existing copies of the Qur’an were destroyed? And we really have no one but Caliph Usman’s word that the version he gave us is legitimate? How do we know that he did not edit the text to support his own claims to power?
And note Quran didn’t come in one time like bible Quran come in a duration little by little on Prophet of Islam. So my fellow Christian QURAN IS THE BIGGEST MIRACLE or you can say PROPHECY of Prophet MUHAMMAD pbuh.🙂 When i know more in my mind i will right here. Rightnow is enough.
The Bible didn’t come at one time. It would be nice if Muslims actually had a better understanding of the Bible and Christianity before they actually attack it.

mchale if I may, I’d like to assist in a response here.
mchale;3395237:
Why would Christianity want to gather people in a mosque to listen to the Qur’an?
Holy Scripture–the Word of God
That would be nice, especially if we got the whole story, which you don’t when listening to the Qur’an.
mchale;3395237:
Certainly millions of Christians attend services every week and millions more attend Christmas and Easter Services.
This is only equivalent to Muslim Friday prayers and khutbahs–but Muslims pray at the mosque not just every week, every day, but five times a day! And this is not even one of the largest mosques in the country. Probably not even the largest in the state.
Muslims took the practice of prayer five times a day from the Jews and Christians. In the Catholic tradition it’s called the Liturgy of the Hours, or the Divine Office. When practiced in it’s fullness, including the readings as well as the prayers, we pray nine times during the course of a day. This is a practice that is encouraged, it is not forced as it is in Islam. It is something that is done either in private or in community. The necessity of bringing large groups of people together in a “soccer field” proves nothing. Prayer is between the individual and God, as Christians we are told:
Mt 6: 5-6 "When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
mchale;3395237:
And certainly millions of people every year make pilgramages to Rome, Lourdes, Jerusalem, etc.
At the same time?
Eight million were expected to come to Lourdes this year for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the miracle there. The date just passed about a month ago, I don’t know the actual numbers. Four million visitors came to Rome for the funeral of Pope John Paul II, there could have been more but state officials closed off entrance to the city. This is immaterial in my opinion though, going back to Mt 6:5-6, it’s just not necessary for us all to see a public display such as this. God takes as much pleasure from the small sacrifices of the sick, poor and lonely as he does from the grandiose displays of the many who can afford to travel and are in good enough health to do so.
mchale;3395237:
As for praying the same direction; well Jesus taught us that it is not where we worship, but what is in our hearts when we worship that is what matters.
At every moment, somewhere in the world, there is a Muslim praying, facing the Ka’ba. That is something!
Honestly, the treatment of the Kaaba seems to me to make it a gigantic idol. That’s just my opinion. At every moment, somewhere in the world there is someone praying the rosary or some other devotion. Seems immaterial that the same is true for Muslims to pray towards the Kaaba.
mchale;3395237:
There is a huge difference between the persecution that the first muslims experienced and what the Christians experienced.
Why?
Because Muhammad and his followers were fighting as much or more for political control as they were for freedom of worship. Their persecution was in part due to their use of violence. Christian theology preaches non-violence and has from the beginning. We were not told, and did not try to seize control of political authority, and so our persecution as compared to the Muslim persecution is unjustified.
mchale;3395237:
By the time of Muhammed’s death Islam had already conquored most of the Arabia. Certainly within 50 years of its founding, Islam as a whole could be considered relatively safe from persecution. Fifty years after the death of Christ, the persecutions of Christians were just starting.
Isn’t that interesting. More proof for the validity of Islam, it seems to me.
Again, proof only of the faith’s entanglement in politics, the need for Islam to seize political control. Not proof in any way of it holding any truth.
mchale;3395237:
I am not denying that Islam had martyrs, however, the level of persecution that Islam experienced simply cannot compare to the persecution of Christians prior to the reign of Constantine.
Would you like to tell the woman stabbed in her abdomen that it’s not enough torture? Frankly this seems to me again a proof of Islam.
It’s not a question of the method of torture, it’s a question of the numbers of people, and who committed the persecution. Christianity was illegal in Europe for 312 years. Christians were gathered up just for being Christian, thrown into the coliseum as fodder for lions and other ferocious animals to watch for sport by the ruling class. Christians were used as human torches in the Roman imperial gardens. Part of the difference between this sort of persecution and what occurred to the Muslims is that the Christians were not fighting anyone for political control, invading territories outside of their own, at least not violently anyway. One could argue Christians were a sort of conscientious objector by not paying taxes (because they’d given their money away to the poor), or taking care of the unfortunate (which was not the way you did things back then), and refusing to worship anyone but God. But that’s a big difference compared to physical battles where lives are taken for the purpose of usurping the ruling class.
mchale;3395237:
With respect, many Muslim “Martyrs” died in wars of conquest. That is not the same as “protecting” the Islamic state.
Didn’t I mention the Battle of Badr? Let me add the Battle of Uhud.
Both the battle of Uhud and Badr were battles of conquest fought in the years 624 and 625, they were battles to take control from the ruling authority of the time, not to protect any land that was already under their own political authority, since Islam was still just a budding political force at that time. An Islamic state did not exist, they were forming it at the battles of Uhud and Badr, i.e. they were battles of conquest.

Well the Bible being a book of prophecey referred to the mosque that is on the temple mount in Jerusalem as an “Abomination” thousand of years before it was built. In the book of Daniel an Angel Appears to Daniel and show him what will happen in the future.

Daniel 11:31 (New International Version)
"His armed forces will rise up to desecrate the temple fortress and will abolish the daily sacrifice. Then they will set up the abomination that causes desolation.

Daniel 12:11 (New International Version)
"From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days.

Jesus also made reference to it in his prophecey of the end times.

Matthew 24:15 (New International Version)
"So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’[a] spoken of through the prophet Daniel —let the reader understand—

Hmmmmmmmmmm…

I’m so sorry I haven’t been able to reply to everyone’s posts… I’d like to make a summary thus far of proofs for the Bible, and steer the thread back on track inshaaAllah because it seems everyone is falling into that old habit of attacking Islam.

Some posters have said they take the Bible on faith–that there is no proof.

Another opinion is that the Bible must be true because some archeological finds are in line with stories in the Bible.

Another opinion is that the Bible doesn’t matter anyway and the proof is apostolic tradition.

Another opinion is that the Bible must be true because early Christians were tortured for belief.

Another opinion is that the Bible must be true because there are a lot of copies of manuscripts.

And another opinion is that the Bible must be true because it makes prophecies which it fulfills. Or prophecies in general without Sister Amy’s editorial comment.

Yet another opinion is that the Bible must be true because Christians have done good things like have hospitals and schools.

Does anyone else have any other opinions? Anything that might actually answer my question, why the Bible has proof that the Qur’an doesn’t? Thanks all!

You didn’t cite my opinion, which is that the Bible displays it’s superiority to the Qur’an in that the Qur’an does not stand alone, it uses the Bible as it’s support. Post # 33. Comparative analysis of similar elements of the two books leaves the Qur’an falling short in several respects. Without the Bible, there is no Qur’an.

I’m sorry I must have missed this point. You made some really excellent points on this thread which I didn’t address… I’m sorry. Just want you to know though, they were excellent points (in my unauthorized opinion… lol.) 👍

The Qur’an however does stand alone. It is the Bible which requries the support of the Bible. I.e., the NT relying on the OT, right? The Qur’an came to a people–the Arabs–who did not have in their possession ANY written scripture, so it’s rather illogical to claim dependence.

The comparative analysis was fascinating and I’ll try to address it entirely at a later time, but ultimately the conclusion is subjective, i.e., I like it better this way so it’s true, and in that sense not objectively convincing. Sorry for leaving it out. I want to write a lot in response to it though… it made me think in a new way. 👍

With respect Sister Amy, you seem to regard historical facts as attacks on Islam. I also think you missed the point of my argument. I am not saying the Bible is true because early Christians were tortured and killed. I am saying that the truth of Christianity and therefore the Bible is supported by the fact that so many Early Christians accepted torture and death without denying their faith and (most importantly) without physically fighting to defend themselves. Military conflict was part and parcel of Islam from it earliest days. Christianity on the other hand accepted the suffering that was inflicted upon them and simply offered it up to God. Yes, many Christians would later embrace military conflict as a means of defending and spreading the faith but that is a later addition, and is not part and parcel of the faith itself. Jesus never physically harmed anyone, never raised a sword against an opponent nor ordered his followers to do so. That is the fruit I am talking about.

It’s quite possible, Bill, that I just don’t know what you’re talking about. If the number of people who dies is more indicative of to whom belongs the truth, then we ought to all raise a banner for the people of Gaza today.

What I am saying is that Muslims suffered persecution too–and they fled for their lives, and it was only later that they fought. They weren’t fighting to take over Arabia, but Arabia united under the banner of Islam. But if you want to claim that Muslims didn’t suffer enough, as much as Christians, then what do you have to say for the Jews who have been persecuted in Europe for centuries? Who also suffered at the hands of Rome, and of Persia. By that logic Judaism has more truth than Christianity.

Jesus said according to the Bible that he did not come to bring PEACE but a sword… Jesus preached for 3 years, Muhammad preached for 23. Islam is not just a faith one keeps in the heart–it is a way of life. And part of a way of life, whether you like it or not, includes martial conflict as a way of dealing with the world. Do societies successfully exist without it? If aggression is the nature of man, then shouldn’t a religion which is complete provide a remedy for dealing with it in practical terms?

I am sure, of course, that you meant the Mercaz Harav yeshiva in Jerusalem not Gaza.

Sister Amy,

Will YOU, as a Muslim, stand up and condemn this kind of terrorist attack by your co-religionists?

It is not merely a question of how many people die, but how the followers of the belief respond. In the early days of the Church, Christians did not raise a sword to defend themselves, rather, they continued to simply preach the Gospel message.
I am not going to try to defend the persecution that Jews have received at the hands of Christians and others over the past several thousand years. It was reprehensible, and still is regardless of where it is found. Further, I never denied that the Jews are the chosen people of God, with their own covenant. The Christian Covenant does not replace the Jewish Covenant; rather it provides a fuller way to the truth.

Regarding the Muslims fighting over Arabia… what? Earlier you were citing battles that the Muslims fought with Arabs who had not accepted Islam. And certainly, one cannot claim that the expansion of Islam following Muhammed’s death was anything but conquest.
Jesus said according to the Bible that he did not come to bring PEACE but a sword…
Jesus also said that “he who lives by the sword shall die by the sword.” Everything in the Bible needs to be understood in context. When Jesus said that he did not bring peace but the sword, he did not mean a literal sword, and not one he wielded. Rather he was saying that by following him, one would not find peace in this life, but rather strife with those that would oppose the Gospel message. But that does not lessen our requirement to “turn the other cheek” nor to “love our enemies”. The sword is ultimately not for us to wield but for God.
Jesus preached for 3 years, Muhammad preached for 23.
Is the purpose of religion to justify evil or to help us overcome it? We Christians, today, are too ready to set aside our Christian beliefs for the practicality of the world. We believe we need weapons to defend ourselves; to fight those who would persecute us. But that is not what Jesus preached, and it is not the way the Early Christians lived. We shouldn’t attach those who attack us, rather we should embrace them as brothers. We should forgive those who persecute us and pray for them. For more 250 years, Christians lived as a persecuted minority amongst the Romans, and ultimately they won; not through force of arms, but through the light of God.

Bill

I am sure, of course, that you meant the Mercaz Harav yeshiva in Jerusalem not Gaza.
Actually I meant Gaza which is currently under siege by the IDF. I didn’t know about this, though.
Sister Amy,
Will YOU, as a Muslim, stand up and condemn this kind of terrorist attack by your co-religionists?
I will, and I DO condemn the injustices on both sides.

So does Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas by the way. According to his aide, “President Mahmoud Abbas condemns the attack in Jerusalem that claimed the lives of many Israelis and he reiterated his condemnation of all attacks that target civilians, whether they are Palestinians or Israelis.”

This was a tragedy–7 innocent people died. 😦 So allow me to condemn it in the strongest terms.

The Qur’an says: O ye who believe! stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest ye swerve, and if ye distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do. 4:135

What I am saying is that Muslims suffered persecution too–and they fled for their lives, and it was only later that they fought.
Islam starts with Muhammed, Muhammed fought. Islam started out fighting. Estimates are that Muhammed was 40 years old when the Qur’an was beginning to be revealed to him, and the battle for Mecca was only 10 years later.
They weren’t fighting to take over Arabia, but Arabia united under the banner of Islam.
Little difference there.
But if you want to claim that Muslims didn’t suffer enough, as much as Christians, then what do you have to say for the Jews who have been persecuted in Europe for centuries? Who also suffered at the hands of Rome, and of Persia. By that logic Judaism has more truth than Christianity.
It was never illegal to be a Jew in Rome. They would kick you out sometimes for being a Jew, but being a Jew was not a crime as it was to be a Christian.
Jesus said according to the Bible that he did not come to bring PEACE but a sword…
Yes, to say He would cause division among us:
Mt 10: 34-39
"Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s foes will be those of his own household. He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.
The same verse in Luke reads:
Lk 12:51 Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division; they will be divided, for henceforth in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three; father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against her mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law."
Jesus preached for 3 years, Muhammad preached for 23.
It takes no more time to speak the truth than it does to speak lies.
This is why I doubt that Islam sincerely acknowledges Jesus as a prophet. The only part of this Jesus would agree with is that faith is a way of life. Jesus does not accept it’s natural for us to kill each other, in fact He commands us to love each other, indeed to love our enemies.

Thank you.

I also condemn attacks that target civilians deliberately.

The difference I see between Hamas and the IDF, is that Hamas tries to kill/injure Israeli civilians, and then hides among the civilians of Gaza in the hopes that IDF attempts to retaliate will strike those civilians. That is reprehensible.

As far as the Israeli siege of Gaza…the people of Gaza chose Hamas to lead them. If they want the siege to end, then they must remove Hamas from power.

Mik

Islam starts with Muhammed, Muhammed fought. Islam started out fighting. Estimates are that Muhammed was 40 years old when the Qur’an was beginning to be revealed to him, and the battle for Mecca was only 10 years later.
Ummmm… you sure about that? 40 years old at the first revelation of the Qur’an–true that. And it continued for 23 years. Muhammad lived in Mecca for 13 years after the first revelation and only left (he was to be assassinated that very night!) when he had no other choice. So there could be no “battle for Mecca” 10 years later–he hadn’t even fled to Medina by then! The only “battle for Mecca” I know of anyway is the conquest of Mecca, which happened when, 20? 22? years later? Sorry I’m getting solar and lunar years confused now. Wikipedia says 630 AD. So your “only 10 years later” is factually inaccurate.

The Muslims were persecuted in Mecca for 13 years.
This is why I doubt that Islam sincerely acknowledges Jesus as a prophet. The only part of this Jesus would agree with is that faith is a way of life. Jesus does not accept it’s natural for us to kill each other, in fact He commands us to love each other, indeed to love our enemies.
There is no way in Islam to deny that Jesus is a prophet–that is an act of disbelief which could take a person out of Islam. How can we believe in some messengers and reject others? You see, the Muslims were given permission to fight, in some cases commanded to. Don’t you see that the Jews were commanded to do the same in the OT?

I’m going to relate this back to my original topic–in this sense, the Qur’an is the same as previous messages. At what point will people realize that they have the right to fight to defend themselves? If a human being falls on his face, the natural inclination is to break his fall, with his arm. It is so natural. Asking people not to fight–that is the hard part. But in some cases fighting IS worthwhile.

4:75 And why should ye not fight in the cause of Allah and of those who, being weak, are ill-treated (and oppressed)?- Men, women, and children, whose cry is: “Our Lord! Rescue us from this town, whose people are oppressors; and raise for us from thee one who will protect; and raise for us from thee one who will help!”
