Proof of New Testament Found?

An exciting find no doubt, but I’m reserving judgement 'till more study is done. I remember when everyone went wild over the ossuary box. Then the owner got arrested for forgery and claimed the recent scratches came from when his mom “cleaned” it. Don’t you hate when that happens? “Mom! I told you to stay out of my room!” 😃 Anyway, I also remember some fundies jumped at the chance to proclaim it as disproof of Mary’s perpetual virginity (which it wouldn’t even if the circumstances of its discovery were not suspect. Or as I like to say, come back when you find another ossuary box with “James, son of Joseph, in utero son of Mary” on it. 🙂 )

Faith does not need to be substantiated by evidence of an archelogical nature, faith is just what it is, faith. Years ago people didn’t have bibles or the means to buy one, they still had faith. Faith is a revealed truth of God to the heart and something evidence of a material nature cannot shake or add to.

If it is as it claims to be, the cave of John the Baptist, then this is something every Christian should be happy about, and if it is not it is something every Christian should spend no time wondering about, afterall, faith lies in belief and belief needs no proof.

I have nothing to add, very well said, I agree 100%.
 
If it IS the place of St. John the Baptist, then I am sure some people’s unbelive could be shaken.
Also it would strengthen my faith to prove that Jesus is who He says He Is.

However, why a cave in stead the Jordan River? Unless the cave were for times when the Jordan may have been to shallow for emersion.

whenever i read of archeaological findings that confirm scripture, it makes me sad, actually. because it means that there are so many people who are surprised at the finding.
 
I can completely understand what you mean by that jeff. That’s why I say the finding is not important in that we already BELIEVE. xxx
