I asked St. Philomena for a great favor earlier this year. And I was faithful in praying to her and thanking her. Everything I havew read says that the people she grants favors to hear knocking, and I’ve never heard any knocking. But the fabor was granted and I thanked her and God for it. I feel you should always thank God for answered prayer when you have prayed to a saint since the saint has requested it of God for us. So, since i heard no knocks does that mean St. Philomena didn’t intervene? I am tremendously grateful that the healing I prayed for was granted.

St. Philomena has been a powerful little saint in our family, too. I was just about to say that I did not hear knocking when the big prayer was answered. But, I think I did.

When our first child was born, she was placed in the NICU for several issues. I was allowed to have an extra night’s stay (past the normal 96 hours for c/s) at the hospital b/c I lived far enough away to do so. On the next day, I had to leave the hospital without my DD. So as to be closer to the hospital, I went to my sister’s house and my parents were there to help take care of me.

My mom made me go take a nap in my sister’s room. All I can remember is crying inconsolably. Then I remembered reading Fr. O’Sullivan’s book about our dear saint. So, I asked her to intercede for us. I told her that if DD could come home the next day, we would name our next child after her. Not five minutes later, the phone rang. A few minutes after that, my mom knocked on the door to let me know that DH had called from the hospital with the good news.

BTW, our second DD is named Rose Philomena. 👍 I do so love St. Philomena. She has been one of our favorites since we first heard of her. We love her so much she is in our family’s personal litany of saints.

I am a youth minister and I dedicated our Youth Group to St.Philomena’s intercession. Years ago, after our youth group participated in a inter-parish volleyball league, Two cars of our teens were returning back to our neighborhood. The cars were driving next to each other in separate lanes. When they approached an intersection, both entered nearly the same time and were broadsided by another teen who was visibily under the influence. All three cars were spun everywhere. As the adult leaders. we were just a couple minutes behind them waiting for others to be picked up by parents. When we approached the horrible scene before us, we couldn’t believe that six of our teens were standing next to their two crushed cars. They were visibly shaken and suffered from some minor abrasions and seat belt burns on their shoulders where the belts held them fast from striking the windshield. All six were taken to 2 different hospitals and another youth minister and myself split up accompanying the teens. Fortunately, none of our kids were seriously injured but both of their cars were totaled.

Later that night as my wife and I were lying down in bed, saying our night prayers, we thanked St.Philomena for her intercession and protection of our teens. Not 10 minutes later, the music box that was not wound began to play for about 10 secs. and as we drifted off to sleep in grateful appreciation…there was a rap at our bedroom door. No one was behind it, except our beloved St.Philomena reminding us of her constant vigilance. Thank you dear lady.

You don’t have to wait to hear knocks to be assured that it was St. Philomena that interceded for you. Just give thanks to her and the Lord. Such phenomena should not be sought after. If God allows it, it is okay, but should not be our focus.

The same is true with regard to the scent of Roses and St. Therese, the Little Flower.
