Proof our society views animals equal or above human?

If 4,000 pilot whale were found on a beach one morning, would there be a huge public outcry to save the whales at any cost. If a humaine society was putting to death 4,000 puppies and kittens a day would there be a huge public outcry to stop the needless killing.

I believe the answer is yes to both of these instances.

Where is the huge public outcry for the 4,000 babies aborted every day in this country!

Does is seem crazy to you this we as a society are so backwards in our thinking toward our fellow human beings. We run to the rescue for a whale or puppies but turn our backs when its human babies?

Have we grown so accoustomed to the killing of babies that it doesn’t really matter to us anymore?

For the majority of the U.S. public, dogs and cats have limited personhood. We think of them as having personalities, readily ascribe human emotions to them and compare their treatment to how humans are treated. We regard our dog or cat as a member of the family.

This sense of personhood is not extended to a fetus by a majority of Americans. For them, a baby is not a person until it is born. This attitude is a bit soft - most people in the U.S., if pushed, are willing to consider restrictions on abortion in the third trimester and perhaps even the second trimester. For them, the more a fetus resembles a baby at full gestation, the more they are willing to consider him or her to be a person and treat killing as a form of murder. The further a baby is along in gestation, the more we are willing to think of him or her as having emotions and a personality.
 
Maybe if we were shown more of the 4,000 babies aborted a day we would also have such a strong reaction. If 4,000 whales were stranded on a beach then it would be on every news network with hours of coverage a day. And I don’t think that is wrong. I do think that it’s up to us Catholics to make the realities of abortion more obvious to the average eye.

Honestly, I am a person that loves animals. I have five dogs and four cats. I call them my furry children…and quite frankly they are members of our family. Most of them are rescues that would’ve been dead if it hadn’t been for what I think was Divine Interventions in putting me at the right place at the right time to save them. One of my biggest dreams is to start a multi-state rescue group.

I’ve noticed that there sometimes seems to be a tendency for pro-life people to think less of animals. Obviously a baby is much more important then a dog or cat, but I think these animals are here for a reason too and that’s to bring joy into our hearts. I don’t have a conflict between being pro-life and pro-animal, because I think all God’s creatures deserve respect and dignity.

The Lord God Made Them All
