As believers in God, we all intuitively know that God exists. It just makes sense to us. But in discussions with atheists, we can never seem to answer the question: “Well if God exists, why don’t you prove it?” I’ve spent a lot of time on the internet, and I’ve been on a lot of sites that I haven’t exactly been welcome on because of my faith. I now know that if we all don’t ask ourselves this question, someone else who hates us for our faith will. And if you don’t know the answer when that time comes, you will make everyone who believes in God look stupid.
So I’m going to make sure that doesn’t happen, right now. I’m going to give you the proof you need that God exist.
The answer: Love. I know, you think I’m about to give you a lame sentimental load of hogwash, but just bear with me.
Let’s look at Love from an evolutionary standpoint. Why is it that in every human culture, all around the world, in every time in history, human beings have developed a need to love and be loved? From an evolutionary point of view, Love seems like a pointless concept. Humans don’t need Love to reproduce; it doesn’t help them adapt to their environments. How else could you explain the universal human need for Love without the existence of a Surpreme Being whose very essence is Love?
No one has told me to say this, I figured it all out on my own, so no one can say that religion stiffles independant thought. The atheist may not come any closer to being converted, but at least he won’t be able to say that you haven’t thought it out. Next time an atheist demands proof, just look back confidently and surprise the heck out of him.
