Hello everyone,

I was just hoping you could help me in figuring out what to wear for a retreat tomorrow. I wasn’t sure where to post it so I thought here might be okay. If not please, mods, move it where it belongs.

Tomorrow I’m going to a retreat with my college parish to a community of Benedictine nuns. The Sister who is taking us said we should dress comfortably. But I guess I’m still feeling kind of confused. Are jeans appropriate, would khakis be better? Should I just wear a T-shirt or would a blouse be better? I like to cover my head when in prayer, would wearing a headcovering(such as a scarf not necassarily a mantilla) be okay?

I’ve never been to a retreat before and really am not sure what to expect. Just thought I’d ask for any advice/tips on what to wear and such if any of you have any.

Thanks!

Hi there,

I can’t speak for every retreat or retreat center, but as sister said, dress comfortable. At the retreat center I work out, we see everything from t-shirts to dress shirts, jeans to dockers.

Your outfit (unless it’s outrageous or flashy or something) is the last thing you or anyone will be thinking of or focusing on. So if you are most comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt, go for it. Khakis and a blouse, go for it. As long as it’s nothing indecent, you’re fine.

Enjoy your retreat. 🙂

Thank you very much! 🙂

business casual for inside the retreat center, accent on modesty (no tank tops, cut-offs, flip-flops. . . ), proper attire for Mass, outdoor clothing-jeans, boots etc. if the center has grounds where you will be walking.

I’ve been on many retreats and you should dress comfortably. We once were rained in and this one woman wore slippers.

Thank you all very much!

I wore a blouse and khakis and brought my hoodie since it was chilly in the morning.

I had a great time! Me and my boyfriend are looking into finding a place to go on retreat for spring break next semester.😃
