<<< I have read saints who have said that the pains of hell and the pains of Purgatory are the same, save for the fact that the poor souls have hope. I don’t think there is Doctrine on the subject, but I am free to believe what the saints have said since it isn’t contrary to anything. I could be wrong, but I could be right. >>>>
Malleus : I wont argue that point with you. If you read the Summa St Thomas Aquinas opines that Hell and Purgatory are in close proximity to one another and the same Fire which torments the Souls of the Damned - purifies the Souls in Purgatory. And I dont think you are wrong definitively. I only lean towards Hell because of the "Exterior Darkness " But then - thats a theological point. You very well could be right. I had the very same discussion last week with an Eastern Catholic who likewise disputed St Thomas Aquinas. Isnt theology a wonderful thing?
