Proper attire for baptism of my three sons?

Hello! I’m hoping someone out there can provide some insight as to what my sons should wear for their baptisms in a few weeks. I went through RCIA this past year and now, my three sons will be baptized! I also have an older son, however, he was baptized as an infant. My sons who will be baptized are ages 8 and 4 (twins). I would like them to wear something brown prior to the actual sacrament, and then change into something white once baptized. Any ideas as to what they could wear? One important note…I don’t have a lot of money to spend on clothing…especially since I need to buy gifts for the Godparents and my sons, and for the reception afterwards (just cake and beverages).

be guided by whoever is preparing them for sacraments, there is no universal rule.
depends on whether baptism is by immersion or pouring. They should cover this during the classes and information sessions for parents. There should be no need to purchase any special clothing. Anything appropirate to be worn to church is acceptable.

In my parish children that age are dressed in albs after they’ve been baptized. Perhaps you can discuss that with your priest. If they use albs for the servers in your parish it could just mean adjusting the length and the sleeves of two of the smallest to accommodate the size of the twins. Easily done by pinning or basting.

In Mexican culture boys wear a white suit during thier baptism.

I think a suit would look very nice. If you think that is too expensive and not an option then maybe a combo of trousers, shirt and a nice jumper.

In our small church, there is a Baptismal font, and pouring of the water, and no convenient place where one could change from one outfit to another. I have seen male children your sons’ ages in a nice pair of trousers and white shirt, all the way to a white suit, white shoes, and white tie. The younger the child, the more elaborte the dress. Once boys get to a certain age, I think they tend to balk at being dressed all in white.

Why don’t you ask your priest or deacon what is customary in your parish.

I agree with first poster. It’s understandable that you want it to be a special day and for it to be remembered. But you dont need fancy clothes to do that. Just some ordinary attire should suffice and a nice handy cam or camera to capture some shots.
