My 8 year old nephew is getting baptised this weekend. We were planning on having him wear a black suit but were wondering if he should be wearing white instead? When our children were baptised as infants they wore all white. Should we do the same here? Any thoughts, suggestions?

God Bless…

Congratulations!!! I think a black suite is fine. As long as he is dressed respectfully, color should not batter. Just thank got it’s not cut off shorts and a t-shirt. The one thing you should do is post this question to the boy’s parents and offer to buy him a new suite as a gift (if they agree). Thanks for being such a great Uncle.

Praise.

a white suit would look so disco era. Probably should wear something white, how about a white shirt? When my daughter was baptized she wore a white dress and a chapel veil… I did that so she can wear that at first communion, confirmation, and if she gets married, she can incorporate it into her wedding veil… actually it was the priest’s idea, a good one. I don’t know how you’d do that for a boy though, he’d look silly with a veil on.

Traditionally the symbol of color is dark before Baptism, not necessarly black. The chld is then dressed in white after the Baptism as part of the actual Baptismal Rite. SO in my opinion the suit is fine before but you should have a white outfit for after the actual Baptism.
