I’ve been wondering about baptism and how it is properly administered. Some pastors baptize only, “In Jesus Name…” According to the Catholic faith a valid baptism can only be in the Trinitarian formula as given to us by Jesus (Mt 29:19).

Of course the pastors who administer such a baptism are not those who would believe it to be sacramental, espousing instead the “believer’s baptism” of the Ana-Baptist tradition.

So, are people baptized this way saved? Are they missing something? What do you think?

Yes they are missing something, not just in their non-baptism, but also in their theology.

It seems to me that unfortunately there are many non-Catholic communities are the Church’s of Paul and a non-Trinitarian Christ.

Though those who are baptized using an invalid (non-Trinitarian) formula are not sacramentally baptized, it seems to me that they would likely be “saved” through baptism by desire.

only the Trinitarian baptism is valid, so those baptized in any other fashion have not received a sacrament and have not been fully received into the Church. Whether they are saved is up to the Holy Spirit. The Church holds that if their ignorance of the necessity for baptism is invincible and cannot be overcome, there is yet the possibility they can be saved through their love for God evinced by their manner of living and worshipping to the best of their knowledge and understanding.
