Years ago, when I finished CCD, the religious ed program gave each of us a Bible with our names inscribed on the cover. Problem was my copy, at least, was misprinted. Somewhere in the middle of Psalms, it just started Psalms over again, and an equivalent chunk of Proverbs was missing. I’ve kept it all these years because I didn’t know what else to do with it.

Obviously, I can’t donate it. I’ve seen a lot of suggestions that old Bibles be burned and/or buried. I don’t really have a place for burning things. I guess I could bury it, but the way the soil is here, it will have to go deep. I figured I’d ask CAF if you have any other suggestions. Thanks!

A little late to send it back to the publisher. Although, you could email them. Otherwise, Respectful burning. Make a prayerful day trip out of it, if no place can be found locally.

Why can’t you donate it? Put a note inside that says “Part of Proverbs is missing”. At the parish we often have people come ask for a Bible, they would be happy with your misprinted Bible.

Does your parish have readily accessible Bibles for those asking for them? Even for use only within the Church? Mine has none. Nor does any parish I’ve been to in my area, I’ve seen them at other parishes outside of my area though…

People donate Bibles, we keep them and give them away when someone asks for one.

A lady at our church just brought 3 of them.
They were the 3 bibles we’d given to each of her 3 kids at confirmation.🤬. The kids have all moved out and- surprise- didn’t take their bibles with them. She’s cleaning out stuff and doesn’t want them.

Ugh.

So I put them in the narthex of the church for anyone to take.

Sad but not that uncommon 😦

With the Holy Father announcing back in September the “Bible Sunday” in January, this year there was little response at the English Masses, but, there was a HUGE response at the Spanish Mass. At Sp almost every person brought a Bible to be blessed.

We were offering Bibles the two weeks prior for exactly what we bought them, or free if someone could not afford. Two different offerings for English, one of the red St Joseph paperbacks for $8 or a hardback Ignatius Study New Testament for I think $25. We had Spanish Bibles at $25ish all hard back.

Sold out of the Spanish Bibles, moved maybe 7 of the English Bibles.

We gotta do more to engage our English speaking folks. Maybe we need a new thread?

Thanks everyone for the advice. I wouldn’t have thought donating it would be an option, since it was incomplete, but I’ll check around.
