Proper DVD/BluRay Movie & TV Series entertainment (Catholic and/or Christian and/or secular but only where appropriate)

Hi All,

I am looking for ideas on proper/moral/wholesome entertainment, both for us as parents as well as for our children. Offcourse, not all people like the same things, but Catholics who want to live their faith likely run into this same challenge sooner or later - what to watch? So, here is a list of things we like;

For parents and children;

• (Highly recommended) Blu-ray versions of BBC nature series with David Attenborough (not all content may be historically correct, but the scenery/imagery is AMAZING. Truly shows parts of God’s wonderfull creation) - The Blue Planet, Madagascar, Africa, Planet Earth, Frozen Planet
• BBC Coast Series 1-8 (most content is quite moral, some hickups; just be carefull a bit)

For parents;

• Some Christian/semi-Christian movies [highly recommended] (Fireproof, Courageous, The Ultimate Gift, Flywheel)
• RTVE “Teresa de Jesus” TV series on the life of St. Teresa (nicely divided into episodes which are ideal for parents to watch/unwind when the day is over/children asleep )
• Various Catholic movies (Saints etc.). We get them from the the Mustard Seed bookshop which has many of them for $10-$15 (the must have gotten licenses to create them or something)
• Star Trek Voyager, Deep Space Nine, The Next Generation (but not all episodes are good/moral - you’ll have to be (sometimes very) carefull about it…) (secular)
• Don Mateo series (Catholic, still - same warning definitely applies, often you’ll have to look away to avoid seeing bloodshed - usually at the beginning of the episode)

For children (all in good measure… let’s not spoil them with too much TV);

• Offcourse, “Brother Francis” children’s series (this truly rocks…)
• Curious George episodes + movies (but not the recent ones like Season 6/7, would recommend looking on eBay for the older style DVD’s which have 8 episodes per disc, for example “Curious Geore plays ball”) - Not Catholic (secular), but except for a few bad ones here and there (questionable themes…), almost all of it is wholesome, entertaining (even for adults), quite well behaved, and teaches the children new and interesting things
• For younger children; Johnson’s Baby Brainy Baby (secular) - really great learning dvd’s for younger children
• Timmy Time (hilarious…)

Especially series that take a long time to watch (Teresa de Jesus, Don Mateo, Coast, BBC nature series, …) are great as it allows parents to unwind a bit at night (i.e. many episodes; 1 per day).

So, hope you enjoy this starting list, and would you now help us find other series we may like? Please give ideas
