When my children and now my grandchildren know they have done something they know will bother me there voices tend to get louder. I have found that when someone does not “like” others to wear a veil they tend to argue louder and harder then normal.

So I promise not to be uncharitable when you wear jean and tank tops to Mass if you all will promise not to point out that you don’t like my veil or head covering.

To which poster is this comment directed to?

I personally am not able to discern over the computer which posters here wear jeans or tank tops to Mass, or even assume that any here do.🤷

Or is this something that only ones who wear headcoverings can do?

Personally I would love to see more women WANTING to wear veils out of respect for the Lord.

It bewilders me to why anyone would argue against any pius or reverent practice or custom though I can certainly understand the desire for some to not wish to partake. There should be room for everyone. I believe this is the same ecumenical postition of the Church. Do it if you like but never impose your piety one anyone else lest it become only pride.

I personally follow what scripture and the early church says and wear a veil. I DO believe that ALL women should wear one. It’s a sign of reverence and humility. It really helps defeat the feminism inside one is brought up with these days as well. I attendED a Traditional Anglican church where only one woman wore a veil like the ones that were a link on another post. I personally think think they are pretty but they are not opaque which is what the early church described. Tertullian went as far as to say that the face should be covered as well. (his opinion) But I where a bandana (white) that is fixed so it is long past my neck and completely covers the top of my head. They are cheap and wearing a dress with them doesn’t look heinous. Of course I would like to get longer solid white ones (the charity anabaptist group wears ones like that yet they are not total head coverings and some may confuse a woman for a novice).

Anyway my two cents. 😊

First of all, if you look up on line for modest clothing for Catholic women as your search engine, it says quite clearly that a woman must not wear a veil unless she wears it in her heart first. I wear the veil in both the church and the chapel, to confession, (yes some of us still go thereLOL), and at anytime that I could possibly be exposed to any holy object. I am not older than dirt, but comfortably middle aged. I was almost a teen when Vatican II came around. If anyone gives you grief about wearing a veil, remind them it came from Exodus (covering the head in the holy of holies), and from the admonsishments of St. Paul in the new testament. This in otherwords is sacred tradition. I am sure if you ask any nun, they will be happy to quote you which chapter and verse this comes from. I have always believed that a great deal of our beauty was lost when NOW started saying that the veil was the enslavement of women by the church. That is personal opinion. 🙂

For mos. I did all the same research and talking to older women. Hearing story like this one lady on vacation in 1963 went to a church where they wore no viel she was surprised, and many others after VII, it was the priest that said VII says they don’t have to cover thier heads any more(that was a lie, it was not mentioned) More over it was a rebellion I gather started by feminist. So for almost 20 women were breaking Canon law. All this prior to 1983.
As I fell more in love with Christ and His church the desire to cover my head grew till finally this spring I discided to cover my head, and try not to care what others think. I wouldn’t want it to be law but at least incorouged, not discorouged.
And as far as how well would it go with blue jean, well it might be time women start dressing like women. If you’ve ever read the book " Dressing with Dignaty" by Colleen Hammond you’ll not want to wear pant’s especialy if your over 40( it’s not a pretty sight from behind)

If only the mods would have moved this topic to apologetics.

But the OP had such an innocent post that turned into this.

Me thinks she was wise enough to be slippery about this and hide her intention here where it would not get the same amount of interest as it would if she had only been honest from the start.

Lets face it- how did this digress from the OP:confused: 🙂 😉

If the OP was brave enough- and it seems this is up in the air-

She would have stated her so called “case” in apologetics or sacred scripture--------

But NO.

Innnocently asking how to wear a veil…

With an agenda.

Lets take this to the appropriate slot in the forums OP, unless— you fear being proven wrong- why should you hesitate?

I find it just as distracting from the mass, people who wear veils and people who wear tank tops. They are both in the same boat. I know golf courses that won’t let women wear what they wear in church. I don’t think uniforms is the right option either. And since very few people chose to wear veils, those that do, stick out like a sore thumb.

But in my opinion modesty is the key. It’s good to remind oneself and their daughters that they are going to visit the King of Kings, not madonna at a rock concert. All eyes should be focused on the Lord not on the way we dress.

To St Gabriel (not the real St. Gabriel the archangel)

~ modesty is the key?? say it to the St Gabriel the archangel. Please do not compare golf course and the House of God. Who you think you are Ms Gabriel? u really think you are Archangel??? i will never compare Church with other places, because i knew the house of God is the most holy place. that’s no place such holy than the House of God.

~ visit the King of Kings?, if you really visit the King of King, then try to respect your king. your king is not a modesty king. please remember that ms gabriel.

~All eyes should be focused on the Lord not on the way we dress…!
Ok then one day ask you modesty daughter or yourself to dress very very sexy, super hot sexy short pant to church. ok … do not be afraid because you are only focused on God. that’s the modesty catholic. lousy catholic…

this is all bcos of modesty catholic maybe because of V2. people treated church like a meeting hall, forget the true meaning of the Tradition of church. forget the teaching of Jesus Christ.

God Bless the faithful.

For Jedi,

The defination of modesty: from dictionary.com:

–noun, plural -ties. 1. the quality of being modest; freedom from vanity, boastfulness, etc.
2. regard for decency of behavior, speech, dress, etc.
3. simplicity; moderation.

I think it’s totally opposite from what you were implying.

I was comparing the way people dress to the House of God and the way people dress when they go elsewhere.

My King is very humble.

~ Ask yourself to dress very very sexy, super hot sexy short pant to church – What?? Are you nuts?

BYW I chose St Gabriel, not out of vanity, but because of reverence.

Kind of going back to original question,

headcoverings-by-devorah.com/HEADCOVERINGS.htm

Would the Tiechels on this site be approprate? I’ve been considering head covering, but I’m not a lace gal…know what I mean?

Dana
I think so. Quite a few ladies on these forums have said they wear these or something similar. I wear a lace mantilla b/c that’s all I was ever really exposed to (aside from hats). But, I’ve grown interested in some other options through talking with some of the other ladies on these forums. And, I think they are pretty! 😉
