What this amounts to is that Charlie Zeater thinks biblical prophecies are true, and that others aren’t.

Again, you would see how it would be perfectly reasonable for someone who doesn’t believe in bible prophecies to use “prophet” as a title for others.

It’s not that I “think” biblical prophecies are true, but rather it’s that history has proven them to be true.

Somebody calling anybody (eg, Muhammad) a prophet is not reasonable. It is bad english.

So wait, now in order for a prophecy to be “proven true”, it must be accepted as so by Christians?

Notice that there are billions of people who do not agree that there is any such “proof” of biblical prophecies being fulfilled. I read Psalms 22-I see absolutely nothing about a crucifixion in it.

And then there’s the larger point: If a prophecy is only a prophecy when it’s “proven true” (in the eyes of charlie zeaiter), then none of the OT authors could have rightfully been called prophets until well…after their prophecies were fulfilled.

But that’s clearly not what the definition of the word is, except apparently as Charlie Zeaiter uses it.

My point is not to say you shouldn’t believe in Jesus or the prophecies in Christianity. I think you’re clearly someone who has considered this issue and made a careful judgment-but that doesn’t mean everyone else has to agree with you. And it also doesn’t mean that religious terms like “prophet” have no meaning when others who don’t share your religion use them.

No, it must be realised in history.

Don’t worry. Prophecy is much bigger that Psams 22. You just haven’t looked into it.

True. But they did do other things like parting the water to capture the attention of their people. There are plenty of miracles in the Old Testament.

Ok. You don’t have to agree with my religion.

But calling Muhammad a prophet is as misleading as calling him the President of the United States. Neither is true.

Sorry… gotta go now. Maybe I’ll respond more tomorrow…

Hi

My friend pro_universal has brought a valid argument, if I have correctly understood it.

There is a renowned person say named ‘X’ who made a prophecy at a time ‘Y’ that two thousand years from hence such and such event would happen.

What is the opinion of my Catholic friendCharlie Zeaiter, will he cosider the person X a Prophet, at the time he announced the prophecy ( yet , the event has not been fullfilled, just for announcing the prophecy)? If, yes, on what reasonabe arguments.

Thanks

Please don’t mind, this is just to understand a phenomenon, not a debate to win or lose basis.
There is however, no compulsion to answer this post

Hi paarsurrey,

I will never consider a “renowned person” to be a prophet, unless they can satisfy one of the following:

i) The prophecy has been fulfilled/realised in time.
or
ii) They performed a miracle.

And even then, I would still treat them with contempt until I test them against our gospel and scripture (see 1 Thessalonians 5:21).

But I guess you’re right; If I was, say, living in the time of Noah, I would have laughed at him building the Ark. And then I would have drowned. I thank God He has fulfilled the Old Convenant for me, and given me a New Convenant to live by.

Many thanks for your interest, paarsurrey; It’s much nicer when you ask questions, as opposed to just posting rhetoric.

Hi

Since, as my Catholic friends would have observed, I have made it a non-specific, general case or a principled case, so others may join in and give their opinions, though non-committal, they would be welcome so feel free. Let us thrash it out.

Thanks

Doesn’t the Qu’ran say something about a “rose colored nebula”?

Mr paars.,

why do you use YHWH as part of your name for God?

I think your Muhammad would be displeased, no?
Muhammad took great pains to rid the Arabian peninsula of all
those that would invoke YHWH, no?

**Paarsurrey’s Response:**Would you kindly quote for us all the verse from the OTBible, where Muslims/Islam/Quran/Ulema of the current era have been depicted so vividly?
Hi

Though my Catholic friend JFonseka is not under any compulsion to send a response; it is entirely upto his sweet will if he responds, OR any other friend in the forum. There is no debate on win/lose basis, so kindly feel free to join in to have a little research, no harm.

Thanks

Charlie, this was a good thread idea. Thanks for the invitation.

Do you have a list of any of the prophecies the prophet Ishmael said?
