If tsunamis are not your cup of tea, then perhaps earthquakes might be a more interesting subject.

Is there a logical scientific explanation why the tall and thin mosque minaret especially is still standing at the epicentre of an earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale when other very much shorter and sturdy structures around the mosque have been razed to the ground?

This one I can touch. There are several reasons some buildings stand and others fall during an earthquake. The flexibility of the building materials is one reason. If the materials were sufficiently light, the design limited in its contact with the ground, and the materials flexable without too much rigidity, the structure will stand. That is simple engeneering.

This is an old mosque we are talking about here.

Somehow I do not think that the minaret and the dome were built with flexibility in mind like they do with the “shock absorbers” used in the foundations of modern high-rise buildings in earthquake-prone countries like Japan.

earthquake.usgs.gov/research/geology/turkey/index.php

shows there that the houses not far away remained standing. and what about that white apartment building? there is nothing special here.

earthquakes are not uncommon in turkey, so its not surprising that turkish engineers took that in mind when they built the mosque and the white apartment building.

Never said anything about shocks. You mentioned earlier that the Mosques, at least the domes, were hollow and light, like aluminum. THat reeks of flexibility. Besides, we can’t tell by the pic how sound the structure is. Just because it is standing doesn’t make it safe.

Are Muslims ever killed by an act of nature? Do devout Muslims ever starve to death?

If you want to read about a TRUE miracle, read This

Oh, and although this church is not a catholic church, if you think those mosques a miracle, then this is a miracle that tops all that…

*St Paul’s Cathedral became an inspiration to the British people during the Second World War. The general population were subjected to the might of the German airforce’s ’Blitzkrieg’ attack on major cities across the UK. Throughout the ’Blitz’, St Paul’s miraculously escaped major bomb damage whilst buildings in the surrounding areas were reduced to rubble. Images of St Paul’s framed by the smoke and fire caused by the bombing became a symbol of the nation’s indomitable spirit. *

Don’t Jews and Christians believe in the Last Day when the whole world will come to an end and all life on the planet will be extinguished?

For me, the Message that these pictures tell is just so loud and clear i.e. on the Last Day when the world is destroyed, the only thing that will survive will be the gateway to Paradise… and that is Islam.

Woe betides those who willingly CHOOSE to ignore their Creator’s warning.
Now the standing Mosque is a warning?? I’m glad you find value in these pictures. ANd Jews do not believe that there will be a day when all life comes to an end. At least it is not part of our dogma.

To survive, Christianity, Islam and Judaism need to find peace among themselves. It is quite outrageous that these Abrahamic religions, sharing so much in common, are so often enemies. If we all cleaned up our respective acts, emphasized peace, justice, humanitarian outreach, and what we share in common, what a different world this could be.

My o my you certainly have a lot of disasters in your country.

The tragedy in New Orleans made me think how anything can happen in America, so I wouldn’t think that a nother cannot happen but I pray everyday to be forgiven and in God’s grace over my heart.

BTW, the domes of mosques are hollow structures and are often made of light and thin material like alluminium foil or plaster.

How then can these domes survive the battering of 90-foot high waves?
?
The couldn’t. And they didn’t. THe waves were 90 feet tall as they approached the shore. They were not 90 feet tall when they hit the Mosque.

If you can’t beat’em, join’em.

The camera, installed by Shuttle astronauts during "five of the most challenging spacewalks ever attempted" was 10 times better than the telescope's old camera.
On April 2nd, Hubble turned to the Cone Nebula, a gaseous pillar in the Milky Way 2,500 light years from Earth. After a 3.4 hour exposure, the telescope produced the beautiful image seen on the left.

NASA scientists describe this as a region “abounding in stellar nurseries where natal clouds of gas and dust are buffeted by energetic winds from newborn stars.”

Once the picture went on sale on SkyImageLab.com, a site specialising in photographs from astronomical observatories, something strange happened. Sales went through the roof. James Turley, the site’s managing editor, was puzzled by the sudden surge of orders.

“I was curious when we took an order for over 100 Cone Nebula images. The customer told us to look for the face of Jesus Christ embedded in the pillars. She called the Hubble image the ‘Jesus Nebula’. Being scientists, we were sceptical, at first.”

When the site started selling prints and posters of the image with the face of Christ superimposed on it, others also voiced their doubts.

“It looks nothing like Christ!” commented Guy Gooberman, a poster on a discussion website. “These people will see the world’s most famous carpenter in any old thing.” Fellow-poster Joe Mama agreed: “What it REALLY looks like is the main bad guy from the Resident Evil video game.”

But James Turley, though sceptical at first, was eventually convinced. His site now introduces the picture by saying: “Can you see the image of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, crowned by a sparkling ring of thorns as stars? Thus it was said: ‘And then shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory’ (Matthew 24:30)”

Hi

I don’t know why mention of Prophet Muhammad in the Hindu scriptures has upset my Catholic and Non-Catholic Christian friends so much?

If we find in the Buddhist scriptures mention of a Bagwa Metteyya or White Messiah or Jesus coming to India that could be well understood as GodAllahYHWH has been sending divine guides or Prophets in every part of the world. That should be a matter of satisfaction not of surprise, I think.

Those who would like to know Ahmadia view – a peaceful faith in Islam, might access:
