In his Sunday homily, Father stated that this Sunday was the Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time.
He also called this Sunday as Prophet Sunday.
He spoke about Moses and various other prophets.
Father indicated that we, the congregation, are also prophets.

What do you think about Prophet Sunday?

Interesting…:hmmm:

I did a quick search and found that at least one priest referred to last Sunday (3rd in OT) as Prophet Sunday. Perhaps this is more a matter of personal preference?

FWIW, our pastor this morning spoke at length about guarding our souls from ways we could allow evil to enter our lives – we need to keep our focus on Christ and His Church 👍 Seemed a very appropriate homily for our confirmation class, and for me as well 😛

The priest is quite right that we are all called to be prophets. The Catechism says that we are “a priestly, prophetic, and royal people” (CCC 783-786).

While the first reading this Sunday foretold the coming of a prophet, the Gospel speaks about Jesus not as a prophet but as a teacher. It is a small distinction, I suppose, but it seems significant.

At my parish, Father’s homily was more about teaching. We are all teachers, he said, and we are all taught by one another. Something like that.

In the Shorter Christian Prayer, in the Intercessions for Evening Prayer for Lent: Friday, one of the intercessions is:
Grant that Christians, as your prophets, may make you known in every place,
and bear witness to you with living faith and hope and love.

It was nice to see Christians referred to as prophets. Another reminder of Father’s Sunday homily.
