Not to burst your bubble…but I wouldn’t want my little sister knowing I was going to get engaged before me…😊

Hope you have another plan in mind if you run into April showers too. 😉

Don’t get me wrong. We’ve talked about a lot over the past couple months and that initial high wore off three months in. Besides we were acting like a couple long before we actually started dating, and my love for her has been a long time developing. If you count that time it’s been almost a year as it is. Also, it’s important to me to k ow how well we manage conflict, and I feel like enough has arisen to know that we can manage pretty well.
I got you, i have been there a few times. I understand. Nevertheless, because i have been there, i am telling you to wait at least 5-6 months more, so the effect of this love drug wear out.

Patience is a very important Virtue.

Just a quick reminder. Getting engaged is not getting married. It is the next step in discerning marriage. The church will require at least 6 months of notice before the wedding and the couple will have to attend pre-cana to help them in their discernment.

When my DH asked me to marry him it came up in normal conversation, something like “I’d really like to marry you and spend the rest of my life with you” after that we both discussed it and then started working on planning the wedding. We had spoken to the priest, set a date, and taken one of the parish required marriage classes before my DH finally “offically” proposed and he gave me a necklace instead of a ring. He told me he had gotten the necklace and would be proposing soon, once he got a plan in place (despite the fact we were planning a wedding already!). So I’m sure whatever you plan she will find it very special! Good luck!

It’s going to be roughly a two year engagement. We’re waiting until she’s done w/ undergrad and I finish culinary school before having the wedding. Trust me when I say she’s the one for me. I’m not going into this halfcocked.

…also she’s told me that she loves me even when she’s mad at me:p

I understand but it will be very challenging and a lot of pressure to brake the engagement if he realizes that it isn’t the right thing just yet or have doubt.

I would still wait a few more months. Patience always pay off.

Yes, patience does pay off. I’ve been patient long enough to realize that I’m not called to monastic life. I’ve been patient and giving this time to see if my initial gut feeling was correct. In an instant at her sister’s wedding it clicked in my head that there’s something there. It wasa moment that was COMPLETELY unexpected. I was planning on remaining friends. I was planning on making another visit to the monastery. In a split second, ALL of that changed. That first gut feeling hasn’t gone away. It’s just gotten stronger and stronger. Also coming from my life background I wasn’t planning on dating anyone at all for a long time. She knows all of my struggles, and her support has been invaluable. She’s been and continues to be a healing influence in my life. I’m learning to trust my gut. I ignored it when it told me I’m not supposed to be a monk; I’M NOT IGNORING IT AGAIN!!!

I understand you and i am so thrilled for you. This wonderful feeling is amazing. You are doing the right thing to wait a little bit. Hey, nothing to rush, since you said yourself, the wedding would have to wait two years anyway. She has given you her heart, you won’t lose her. Women are very devoted to their men, they only give up on hope, when they think they have tried everything possible.

When you don’t take your time to respect every step that lead you to marriage, it is like you have a nice sport car and you start from the first gear to the fifth right of way. Every steps is very important. The step that you are in, is to discover each other, and enjoying this time. When you start in a family, you might missed those days that were easy, but if you respect each time, you will embraced fully what it is offering to you at the moment. All the best!

Congratulations, i am very happy for both of you.

((((Blessings))))

We’ve talked it over some more and have decided to wait before getting engaged even though we both know we want to get married. It’s mostly because she feels like her family wouldn’t be too supportive if we were to do so right now. So all I ask of you is to keep us in your prayers.

Um… the two year engagement is what gives me pause.

I’ll give you a different point of view from someone that was in a similar situation. I got engaged to my now husband after only knowing him for 5 months. Our engagement lasted 18 months and we both regret having that much time before the wedding. We both have said we should have gotten married at the first available date at our parish.

If you have the finances and the means, I would take a second look at waiting for two years.

By the way, we’ll be married 15 years this May, so really the only regret we have is the long engagement.

Having too long of an engagement is another reason we’re waiting. We really don’t have the finances t do it anytime soon… so we’re waiting.
