Prot contradictions?

I am going to make observations.
The protestant beliefs seem to have some or all of the following tenets in varying degrees, These seem to contradict each other and scripture, as well as competing denoms or congregations.
  1. sola christus
  2. sola fide
  3. sola gratia
  4. sola veritas
  5. OSAS
  6. all christians are equally correct
  7. only my group of christians is truly correct
  8. catholics are not christians, as a whole
  9. catholics are christians, and equal to all others
  10. sola scriptura
  11. sola spiritus
    When I see a list like this, along with each person’s individual perspective, as is common in protestants, Its no wonder there are a large and indeterminate amount ( estimates range from 200-40000 ) of non catholic churches.
    Its no wonder that catholics are accused of not understanding prots. I don’t know how prots themselves understand prots.

Since we are all humans - Catholics included - we will sometimes experience disagreement. It is hopelessly naïv to think that all Catholics or Protestants will agree on everything their churches teach. Most of us are not saints just yet, you know:p

Look at these doctrines as a reaction to those being taaught by others.

Christ Alone as opposed to there is no salvation outside the Catholic church.

Faith alone as opposed to salvation is dependant on works.

Bible Alone as opposed to tradition which supjects the bible to the authority of an elite group of men.
 
Some " christians" seem to be christians in name only.
It is not my place to judge, and by that I mean that I cannot say who is going where after death, That is God’s Job. Keep on fracturing I guess. I wonder how often a new and different denom or congregation is formed over sub-doctrinal issues.
 
An absurd but pointed example. 10 people start a new offshoot using some newly " discovered " interpretation of the bible including " my group alone " in this year 2008. So by their intepretation, Truth was hidden for 2000 years And no one is in heaven , no one will be except for Jesus and these 10 people

Protestant is a term to lump people together. There is no Protestant church and of course different churches believe different things. The term is no more useful in describing a belief than saying an “American Citizen” believes this.
The differences are of no consequence to me. There are a variety of beliefs and it has been that way since the beginning.
And you are not supposed to use “prot”, its against the rules.

My past congregation believed all I bolded above, either vaccillated or agreed to disagree within itself about the things I italicized, and didn’t seem to believe No. 7.
Red is for when I don’t know what it means.
It was orig. a non-denominational storefront church but went Foursquare just before I left. Foursquare is a 20th-Century trinitarian moderate Pentecostal denomination .
 
Sorry for using the 4-letter word. I will stay with the 1 church that has been around for 2000 years. While it may have been founded on Peter, it was founded BY JESUS. No non-catholic church can claim that it was founded BY JESUS. Lutherans by Luther etc…

There is only one truth. That truth is found in the church that was founded by Jesus Christ and not founded by men. That is the Catholic Church.

Any group that has separated itself from the Church that Jesus Christ founded that still believes that He is God is termed Protestant.
 
Sola veritas I kinda made that one up. It is latin for truth alone.
what it means to me in this case is when a group takes a position that depends solely on the most literal possible interpretation of sola scriptura and leaves out not only grace, but the possiblity of God acting outside of the word of God and possibly OSAS

So you say. And who knows? You might very well be right. But there are many others who believe differently, and some of them believe just as strongly as you do. As I said, members of every religious tradition believe that their way is the correct way.

It isn’t just us who say, its Jesus, The Holy Spirit, The bible, and 2000 years of history and saints who say so.

OK, so we can count you among the ones who believe (most sincerely, I assume) that your way (the Catholic Church) is the correct way. Still, there are many, many people who believe, just as sincerly as you believe, that THEIR way is the correct way. And their “proofs” are just as convincing to them as yours are to you.

I wonder where they get their proof. If they actually research it, even in their own Bibles, it is obvious. History is very obvious. The Catholic Church’s teachings line up with the Bible, and that makes perfect sense being that Catholics wrote the New Testament. If you do your research, it isn’t difficult to see it.

I would argue that if it was, in fact, very obvious, made perfect sense, and was not difficut see, then ***everyone ***would be Catholic.I can’t imagine that anyone would purposly choose a faulty belief system if it was so obvious that another one was the correct one. Obviously, there is something in Church teachings that speaks to you in such a way that you believe them to be true. Great! 👍 But there are many protestants (and Jews, and Muslims, etc, etc,) who believe that their religions teach the truth, and they believe it just as much as you believe in the teachings of the Catholic Church.

I cannot speak for Muslims. I don’t know much about them. As for the Jewish people, I would think that it would take a leap of faith to convert, which many have.

I am speaking of Protestants. They believe in and have in front of them the major piece of evidence. The Bible. So many protestant teaching contradict the Bible or are not taught in the Bible, yet they believe Bible alone. It makes no sense. The teachings of the Catholic Church, do line up with the Bible.
 
I don’t believe this discussion with rick is getting anywhere, He just gives the same answer everytime. There would be no point, because you can’t convince one who just repeats himself like a shield every time. Rick, i will pray for you, and for protestants, jews, muslims, etc etc…
