I was talking with a friend recently… and we are both the kind of person that all our friends kind of … call and dump their problems on (I say it like that for a want of a better term lol) and we both know that this is quite an honor because it means that others see us as someone that they can trust for good, sound and steady advice - but sometimes their burdens can become theirs and sometimes I become empathetic to the point where I can fall victim to depression - like I’ve felt like someone’s just sucked life out of me… and I don’t ever want to turn any of my friends or loved ones away during their dark times … but what someone was explaining was that when we pray for others, sometimes it can take our energy and what I was wondering was if there was a standard prayer of protection that I could pray so that when others tell me all their problems and ask for what seems like endless prayer for their healing or what have you, I won’t feel so deeply affected?

Thanks in advance, I hope that that wasn’t confusing.

It will be never a problem to pray for someone. It is an act of unselfish love. This is hard but when praying we should trust in God totally that He hears our prayers and what He answers to us is the best. It is quite normal to pray for someone and feel affected, but praying without peace and trust in God will drain you physically, mentally and spiritually.

How about the chaplet of Divine Mercy prayer for increasing the trust in God and to trust in His Mercy, and the Saint Michael Prayer for keeping you from any temptation and discouragement.

may I suggest what others have suggested to me:

the next time someone brings a problem to you, ask permission to pray with them then and there, and bind the problem over to Jesus. That way both of you have relinquished the burden in the proper way. Not to say abdicated from taking prudent measures to address the issue and doing what you can, but lifting that sense of oppression. If they resist that idea, do the prayer yourself immediatly after they leave you.
