"200 attend protest outside Aurora Planned Parenthood

November 18, 2007
BY ROWENA VERGARA Aurora Beacon News
Two hundred protesters picketed peacefully outside a controversial Planned Parenthood center Saturday in Aurora, following police orders by staying out of the street and off residential sidewalks.

Aurora Police Chief Bill Powell said the results reflected cooperation between police and rally organizers on the monthly protests by abortion opponents.

“I’m glad the heated rhetoric from this past week calmed down,” Powell said.

Last week, Powell warned that police would arrest protesters who broke city ordinances by picketing on residential sidewalks or standing in the street near the clinic.

Eric Scheidler, a rally organizer and spokesman for Fox Valley Families Against Planned Parenthood, threatened a lawsuit against the city if any protesters were arrested. Several protesters were warned by police Saturday, but no one was arrested.

No Democrats showed up 🤷 I figured they would be there to support abortion rights

We have a Planned Parenthood clinic in northwest Indiana and there was a report in our Sunday bulletin last weekend telling the story of a young woman who showed up 4 times to get an abortion but each time there were prayer groups outside the clinic and she decided not to go through with the abortion. On her 4th trip she decided that she should ask one of the prayer warriors for some help and was directed to a Catholic service group in our area for help bringing the baby to term. 👍

Both wonderful and lovely.

Oberweiss is still trying to get elected to something? He’d be better served by using his ice cream money to fund other candidates, ultimately.

I have no idea about the politics of the people. It still surprises me though when any politican publicly supports pro-life activity.

They are candidates trying to get elected in a generally more conservative district. So this sort of appearance serves them well.

Are you implying that they are not opposed to abortion but simply using the appearance to attract favorable publicity? Seems to me if a politician is actually opposed to abortion, and if they show up at this type of event, we should not make any implications that they might simply be using an appearance something less than sincere support. We have enemies on both sides of the aisle; when some friendly and supportive politicians show up, and are sincere, they should be lauded, not have have their character questioned.

I agree with you It’s all too easy to take no stand; most do that!

Thank you to all who participated – this thread is now closed. As a reminder, it is against the forum rules to discuss the goings-on of particular political candidates who are up for election, either by name or inference.
