Tell me I’m wrong but reading Pauls letters he is talking about working the law of Moses or the law of the prophets without Faith in Jesus Christ - it was a big problem in the early church of some Jews that said the law was required and Paul explained that it was not by the Law but by Faith they were saved - circumcision being one that they demanded - am I wrong about that.
No.
Code:
Also if we believe in Christ and have been baptized we have the Holy Spirit which guilds us to do good works unless we are doing it for our own glory which is pretty obvious if we are praising our selves .
There is no such thing as a perfectly pure motive. By our nature, there are always selfish reasons for our choices. That does not mean God cannot work good through us.
Just worry about myself - pure selfishness -
Just worrying about oneself is not pure selfishness either. I mean, Jesus says to attend to the log in our own eye first, and the Apostles taught that we are to examine ourselves, to see if we are in the faith. Any good works done without these are of limited value.
you should be compelled by your faith to do good works and by the Holy Spirit and if you ignore it then I believe you are not doing Gods obvious will.
Yes, if there is no fruit growing, there is a problem with connection to the vine.
John 15:1-11
1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch of mine that bears no fruit, he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already made clean by the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If a man does not abide in me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be my disciples. 9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
Its taking one line or one word out of context of what the real letters intended to convey. Some how protestants believe we are doing it for our own glory and we simply are not - we do it because its Gods will and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
They come by this honestly. When their churches were formed during the Reformation, most of the Catholic leadership in Europe wer acting for their own glory.
