I used to listen to that. Greg Koukl’s explanation of why the Protestant idea of the rapture doesn’t stand up helped me a lot. Until then, I didn’t know the Catholic Church didn’t teach that! Greg does have a blind spot about Mary, but he’s usually pretty reasonable about other issues.

The first “Protestants” are Amillennialist.

Heck, I’ve been to dozens of RC parishes that do not fit that dichotomy: they are not like CAF (except for maybe one or two of them) but I would still describe them as conservative.

Years ago, I used to hear the “Bible Answer Man” program, the late Walter Martin used to take phone calls from listeners from across the Fruited Plain. Martin also had a serious of debates with Father Pacwa, who was a Catholic priest on the John Ankerberg program. Ankerberg also had a “catholic answers” type program done by protestants.

The CA radio and TV format isn’t anything really novel.

There are many, problem is each one has different answers. There is no authoritative Protestant answer to what the correct interpretation of Scripture. They even their differing interpretations of their own Doctrines.

Actually, the “Bible Answer Man”, Hank Hanegraaff, recently left Protestantism and was received into the Holy Orthodox Faith.

My experience is similar. The last parish I attended Mass at did pray that morning for government to help the poor which I find is certainly not representative of the conservative politics of many on CAF and hearing such a prayer intention was a first for me. My understanding is the priest left the US and returned to his home in Africa however so I have no idea if they still do. It may depend somewhat however on what part of the US someone is in as to how progressive or conservative their experience may be.

I wonder if there would be an equal number of listeners/support for something that might be called "Progressive Catholic Answers Live’? Some guests might be, for instance, Fr James Martin, SJ, Sr Joan Chittister, OSB, Phyllis Zagano, Archbishop Blase Cupich, Elizabeth Johnson, and a host of pastors, theologians, sisters, and people in the pews who are doing extraordinary work inside the institutional Church.

I’m not trying to be either dismissive or flippant here. I experience two very different communities of western Roman Catholics (US, Canada, Europe, UK, etc), and it would be quite fascinating to hear discussions, questions answered, and ideas exchanged just like on CAL.

Considering polls which suggest a large number of US Catholics dissent on birth control or some other teaching and over half of US Catholics have left the faith at some point and roughly half or more of U.S. Catholics say that using contraceptives, living with a romantic partner outside of marriage and remarrying after a divorce without an annulment are not sins. And about 40% say homosexual behavior is not a sin and even a third of weekly Mass attendees say children being raised by a same sex couple is acceptable and so on, I could see where there might be some interest in something such as a Progressive Catholic Answers Live.

It may depend somewhat however on what part of the US someone is in as to how progressive or conservative their experience may be.

And I would add it may depend on the priest regardless of location. Priests can influence the character of their parishes.

Full disclosure: I feel a need to confess that there’s a small part of me (and it’s been there since last year’s GOP primary) that keeps telling me that I’m wrong and the aforementioned dichotomy is right.

In my few short decades of life, I’ve always understood there to be an intrinsic connection between conservatism and goodness/rightness. That’s not to say that I was blind to exceptions, but I saw those exceptions as a kind of aberration, I matter of not-being-true-to-conservative-principles if you will.

But in recent years (you may or may not remember that about 14 months ago I switched from the GOP to the Constitution party) I’ve started to question the “intrinsic” part of that description.

Radio Replies(now online) is a radio call-in program of the 30’s Australia where protestants and non-believers could ask questions to a priest. Fr. Carty and Rumble were hosts of the show. Fr. Carty was a convert from Anglican church. The contexts of that time may be different than now as they had different issues to address, but the answers are of course still valid.

I guess that’s the reverse of what you wanted.

I use many of these answers in particular to those seeking conversion.

I don’t know of one but if there was a radio show like that, it would be titled “Why aren’t you a Christian yet?”

But there is a great website that takes all kinds of faith-based questions and gives Biblical answers. www.gotquestions.org

Not sure why someone would renew a very old thread but gotquestions.org is not anti-Catholic. They are anti-apostasy. Huge difference my friend. The website acknowledges there are genuine Christians in the Catholic church in spite of some of the doctrine the CC holds to. Many anti-Protestants make these kinds of general accusations/judgments without any basis. GotQuestions.org supports all of their positions with God’s Word. Can’t get any better than that.

Nonetheless, it is an excellent website to submit your questions and challenge them on why you are still Catholic.
