I am hitchhiking on TH’s excellent post to add that St. Paul was referring specifically to the Greek Septuagint Old Testament, which were his Scriptures, and which were the Scriptures Greek-speaking Timothy had known “from childhood.” For the full import of what Paul was saying, read 2 Tm 3:14 through 17. All of St. Paul’s quotes from the OT in his letters are from the Septuagint.
