The Protestants do not have a valid Eucharist, so it is just a fellowship dinner. But we do share the same Altar, the Altar of the Word of God. And as in Romans, my Bible heading is “Humanity Lost Without the Gospels.” We need to unite as Christains and pray that one day we will all be able to participate fully in the Eucharist.

I would imagine to you that it does seem odd.
We however call it The Altar though, it is also where the offering plates are placed after being taken.

Coolbeans…
From previous posts (what can I say, I’m a lurker 😉 ) I’d pegged you as a not-quite-Anglican kinda Methodist, that’s why it seemed rather strange.

Good observation!
I am FMC rather than UMC.
Our churches left the Methodist Episcopal Church, South in the 1850’s due to a problem over accepting their Bishops.

Sand mountain I don’t think that you understand that words have to have a standard meaning. You have confused a number of people not just me with your redefineing of the words “altar”, and “kneeling”. This is a Catholic site, and the huge majority of people use standard Catholic definitions here.

I think it is you who are being rude here, “correcting” Catholics on what is after all a Catholic not anti Catholic Protestant fundie site. I think that it is you that owes a sincere appology to all the Catholics here on their own site.

You will never see me “corrrecting” Protestants on their own sites, Even If I wanted too I couldn’t, thay don’t even let anyone post except other Protestant fundies, Catholics are banned from posting at all.

I am not a Fundamentalist and what I was doing was answering a question which was asked about my church:mad:
I am tired of your ramblings and your rude manner.
When you made fun of Southerners because you dislike the way we speak, that did it for me.
I shall not answer any more of your madness. I dislike Bigots.

Yes,
You OBVIOUSLY know more about what I am saying than I do!
Do you have a picture that shows someone kneeling at the bench, so that we can get some idea of how it is used?

I agree with the others who say that it seems much too low to kneel at, in the Catholic sense of that word.

I do not have a photo of such a thing.
I will explain what we call kneeling so that there will be no confusion:)
We kneel by being down on our knees with our upper bodies placed on the Altar, resting on our elbows.
The alter is about 2 1/2 feet tall.

Unlike the Baptists we Methodists do not see it as simply a memorial.
We believe Christ is truly present in the elements but in a spiritual sense.

I agree. So why do you demean people from the South and Appalachia by referring to the Lord as “Laird”?

By the way, how about Catholics who don’t kneel properly in the pews during the Eucharistic Prayer. No, I am not referring to people who are elderly or disabled. All of us Catholics have seen people who put their knees on the kneeler and their rumps on the pew!

HEY, I resemble that remark, and I’m nowhere near Appalachia - Scottish, here!! 😃

I’m sure it was just a typo, anyway - I was looking at it and thinking, Hey, he pronounces that exactly the same way as I do! 😛

It was no typo, here is Boppy’s original statement:
“That is how deep southeners pronouce the word Lord, Lard like pork fat.”

It was no typo it was an attack on Southrons in general and Appalachian folks in particular.
I find it highly offensive.

What we Anglo-Catholics call “snealing” (combo of sitting, kneeling and leaning, on the keelers and the pew seat).

Oh - I never even saw that one. Obviously, Boppy has never met any Scots. 😛
