curious if anyone out there knows which countries, predominately catholic or pred. protistant, have lower crime, more prosperity, less corruption, education, and better human rights practices?

In most countries what determines things like “lower crime, more prosperity, less corruption, education, and better human rights practices” is the form of government they have, not what religion is predominate amongst its citizens.

i’m sorry but there is no such thing as a “protestant” country or a “catholic” country IMO. by current definitions…spain is a “catholic” country but they allow abortion and just ok’ed gay marriage. not very catholic. the same goes with “protestant” countries like germany and england (and the u.s. for that matter)…rampant ungodly behavior. the entire world is secularized (save vatican city which is a country so i guess that would qualify as a “catholic” country).

yeah it is interesting how cultural relgion has become and not very relevant in peoples decision making. I guessi was just wondering if there is any correlation in terms of Gods blessings and direction with type of christianity or not. It looks like it makes no difference at all

This may not be what you are looking for, but I found an interesting link about Emile Durkheim’s paper “On Suicide”. The link is an excerpt of a book written by Robert Alun Jones. The link is attached below.

relst.uiuc.edu/durkheim/Summaries/suicide.html

Admittedly the link references a work that was written in 1897; however, there are several things written then that are still relevant today. If you don’t want to read the whole thing, just look at the section called Egoistic Suicide.

Compare this to JPII’s encyclical “Veritatis Splendor” (1993) – especially chapter 2.

*** Note, it seems the only way the link works if you copy it off the post and paste it into your web browser (at least for me!)***

I think if there is a country dominated by REAL Catholics (practicing according to the teachings) i think it will be the most peaceful, most stable, No corruption, perfect human rights and best education.

Take a look at the Vatican City. Isnt it a peaceful place (unless it has been attacked by terrorists)

Exactly the same could be said for a country dominated by ‘real’ Protestants, or ‘real’ Muslims, for that matter.
