I just have two observations here that I think are rather obvious, but are being overlooked.
  1. When, and if someone attends church is not the topic of the thread.
  2. Jesus says…Where two or more are gathered in my name, I am with them.
I don’t remember any verse in the Bible that says…Go to the building at 5th and Main, and I’ll be there.

Just a couple of observations.

We now return you to our regular programming. 😃

I agree, but you’re wasting your time Tweetymom. OTCA revels in her rudeness and arrogance. She’s never wrong. Even when she is. If you’re not Catholic and disagree with her, you’re a heretic to her. If you are Catholic, then you aren’t a very good one to her. And if you push her on statements and show her evidence that you’re wrong, then you are stalking her.

That’s her modus operandi. Learn from the cycle the rest of us have; it makes it easier to take her with a grain of salt.
Thank you and I will certainlly ignore her from now on:thumbsup:

Well said.

I learned of her refusal to look at facts when it came to her thread about the Eid Stamp being sold, and blaming it on Obama. That was hysterical.

Just pray for her, I think she needs to have her heart, eyes, and ears opened.

That, as well as the infamous “University of Maryland, Good for You!” thread.

Snopes.com is your friend.
I’m posting one of your comments from that thread.
It happened at Washington Community HIgh School in Washington, Illinois in May of 2001. The rest are embellishments and fabrications - no such story exists at the Univ. of Maryland. A classmate of mine is on faculty there, and when I asked her about it last year when I planned to use it in a sermon illustration, her response was, “Is that malarky still floating around the Net?”

As the old saying goes, “It really didn’t happen… but it makes SUCH a good story!”

Urban legend again, OTCA. Sorry.

Also, the University of Maryland has been a state school for many, many years. Go to umd.edu/ and click on “College Portrait/VSA”.

O+
The funny thing is, I live about 10 miles from Washington, Illinois. We remember some of the grumblings from that incident. (use mapquest to find Pekin Illinois) It all died off pretty quickly.

I don’t use the term “personal” because it is a Lutheran word. Christ loved Lazarus more than anything. Lazarus was a good man to Christ. For Jesus to have wept over this man was truly like a loving Father weeping over his son
And that’s not personal?

A specific source for this. I’ve read for months about what you “know” about Luther (we need not go into your views of how Luther changed the Ten Commandments). I contend you know quite little about him.

Jon

I hope we can all agree on prayer and stop with the fighting and criticizing.

Was there a new (and real) question buried a few pages back or was that solved?

Not everyone gets to read Luther’s biography because if they have, it clearly states how he was in error. Calling the Epistle of St. Jude “a bundle of hay” and to “throw it overboard” as states in his biography would have some sort of an effect on me if I were Lutheran. Don’t ya think?
I believe it was “epistle of straw” and in that context Luther was referring to the Book of James, not Jude.

You sure you read that biography, OTCA? 😃

By the way, if you are referring to Fr. Patrick O’Hare’s book The Facts About Luther, you should know that a few years ago, Dave Armstrong removed a quote from that book from his web site because O’Hare had no sources to cite. It’s a horrible book full of anti-Protestant rhetoric that cannot be fully backed up by facts.

Speaking of Dave Armstrong - his book Martin Luther: Catholic Critical Analysis and Praise is a good critical analysis of Luther, pro and con.

As with all non-Catholics here that always seem to be so consumed with the Catholic church…you really need to look to your own souls. For not wanting to be in the church that Christ established, well…you know the rest…😃

Yes jon, I know so little about Luther as you say. But just to know he was a heretic is enough for me…

Amen brothers? Sure you know your Catholic faith? How many times does Jesus Christ and His Apostles mention His Church and how important it is? Which came first, the church or the bible? Only this person answer this post. All you haters can wait…

You obviously need to brush up on what the Church teaches. We aren’t just supposed to ignore the Scriptures. In fact, St. Jerome said “Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.” Do not discount the written Word of God.

What are you talking about? Who is ignorant of Scripture??:confused:The church came BEFORE the bible. Oh boy…🤷

I think your use of the word “many” is an exaggeration, probably based on your real but anecdotal experience. The multi-media blitz is not nearly as widespread as you imply here. Historic and liturgical chuirches, Lutheran, Anglican, Methodist, etc, have, for the most part, maintained tradition nave/altar worship settings.

Jon
interesting, i had to find common ground with my parents who are protestant, about where to go to church here in hawaii where they were visiting. we decided on a lutheran church. yep. no cross big screen tv. ( actually 2 big screen tv’s) no mention of sin or redemtion. just happy go lucky guitar and empty songs. and an empty feel good sermon. which is sad. nothing of the lutheran liturgy ive heard in the past. dont like seeing it in Catholic congregations either. doctrines of sin and the work of Christ get swept under the rug with these type of worship styles. but at least in the Catholic Congregations i see this happening in. therei is still an altar, still a crucifix and still a place where i can pray the rosary afterward. my problem may be more with the style of worship, moreso than the decorations of the sanctuary.🤷

And what point of it that didn’t?
The OT Scriptures predated the Church, and the New Testament is hidden in the Old, plus “In the beginning was the Word…” We must take BOTH Scripture and Tradition together, and Scripture study is something we would do well to emulate that the Protestants do very well.
