Hello all,
I’m 22 years old and I was raised in a strong Christian home (protestant). As the years went by and I started to desire God more (grow in faith), I started studying deep theology. I slowly became entrenched in reformed theology (known as Calvinism) and little by little my I started having a faith crisis.

Recently, I’ve had several friends leave the Reformed church and they have joined Rome. I always considered Rome a “cult” and charged Rome with worshiping a complete different god than what the Reformed church worshiped.

Well, I’m attracted to Rome, and I know God is calling me to Rome. The biggest thing I have to deal with now is my fear. I love my family dearly, and my friends but I’m scared to death that I will be “rejected”.

Please pray for me. Pray that I would fear God above all, and I wouldn’t fear man. I need it.

PS - I will be attending my first mass this Sunday. 🙂

Pray and ask God to tell you his will for you. Be sure to ask him what it is that HE wants you to do. Also, do a lot of reading. Read the Bible and the Church Fathers and be sure to read both Catholic and Protestant commentaries on both. This will help you to help you make an informed decision. As far as fear of rejection: remember that only God can judge you…nobody else can! You have to do what you honestly believe that God wants you to do. Take it from someone who was raised Roman Catholic but explored Baptist Churches as well as Jewish Synagogues. Your family and friends may reject you or disapprove but ultimately it is only for God to judge you. Good Luck!

I will pray for you, my friend, at adoration. Take courage and be resolute! 🙂

“He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38 and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.”

Matthew 10:37

Your discovery brings smiles to my face. It can be difficult with family and friends. However, for me, I found that I was afraid of a worse case scenario and it totally made me worry about converting when the reality ended up being that everyone was either supportive or tolerable about it!!

So don’t let yourself spin out over something uncertain.

Trust in God and keep following his prompting. He will walk with you.

JamalChristophr cited Matthew. We are supposed to love God more than father and mother. But furthermore - and one shouldn’t forget this - we aren’t allowed to love ouselves more than HIM.

When I started my way to Rome I had many obstacles to overcome. Some of them were friends and familiy but the tallest was my own wounded pride. I faced questions like
  • Was my way until here wrong?
  • All what I have done for nothing?
  • I’m lutheranCchrist. I can’t accept that I haven’t had part in the real blood of Christ!
  • I can’t ask to become part of the church since I insiste on beeing part of it!
In short: “That which must not, cannot be.” I stuggeled with all that although I knew the truth.

I pray for you, Jon, that you will have the power to overcome all obstacles which have their roots in wrong human proud.

Prayer For Discernment

God our Father,
You have a plan for each one of us,
You hold out to us a future full of hope.
Give us the wisdom of your Spirit
so that we can see the shape
of your plan in the gifts
you have given us,
and in the circumstances
of our daily lives.
Give us the freedom of your Spirit,
to seek you with all our hearts,
and to choose Your Will above all else.
We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Prayer of Thomas Merton

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me. Nor do I really know myself.
And the fact that I think I am following your will
Does not mean that I am actually doing so.

But I believe that the desire to please you
Does in fact please you.

And I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.
And I know that if I do this,
You will lead me by the right road
Though I may know nothing about it.

Therefore I will trust you always
Though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death
I will not fear for you are ever with me.

And you will never leave me to face my struggles alone.
Amen.

Our Father who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil
Amen.

Christ, hear us.
Christ, graciously hear us.

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.
