I’ve often wondered why people don’t call it for what it really is. “God’s Plan”. The bible tells us before the second coming of Christ we won’t be able to tell the seasons apart. (Mr. Gore…uh Mr. Gore…DUH!!) Do you honestly believe that we (or Mr. Gore) can do anything to stop it or anything to make a difference? If you think you can, you might want to consult the man upstairs because I don’t think he’s going to change his plans to suit Gore or anyone else for that matter. I think God should have the Nobel Peace Prize, don’t you?

I mean, Global Warming is His idea and He’s the one making it all happen. He knows EVERYTHING about it and just how bad it will get which is much more than Gore will EVER know. Why The Man upstairs even knows more that the scientist do. He’s one smart cookie. So lets take the Global Warming and put it where it belongs…File 13. It’s gonna happen and only The Man upstairs can stop it. Gore just wants to make a mark…on something somewhere. I’m sure Gore can make just about anything sound good with all the editors in chief around him. He can also make it seem that he’s the one to make the difference on Global Warming but he’s just blowing smoke for his party so they can beat on their chests and scream Yabbadabbadoo. But I would like to see the film. I have heard it is quite good.

“The bible tells us before the second coming of Christ we won’t be able to tell the seasons apart.”

Huh? I’m a Protestant, and my Bible says, “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, And cold and heat, And summer and winter, And day and night Shall not cease.” (Genesis 8:22) Last I checked all Protestants used the same Bible, so maybe your friend should check it again. 😃

When people say things about what the Bible says, and it’s not in there, I like to say, “Where?” Let them know that they don’t know as much Bible as they think, so that they will quit thinking of themselves as such an authority on the subject.

My grandmother told me this legend about what the Bible says was around when she was a little girl, and pointed out that the Bible says exactly the opposite. 🙂

I’m not making any assertions here about whether global warming is or is not happening, or whether it is caused by mankind or not, or what the solution should be if it is occurring, or if it is even a “problem” in need of a solution if it is occurring.

Well, there are always people who are going to assign whatever happens to the world to the Hand of God without recognizing the role that human free will plays. What God has designed, man cannot stop, but what man is responsible for can be stopped.

again, I don’t remember that passage anywhere in the bible. And secondly, we are called to be stewards of the earth. We are to care for it, and we have free will, and we really don’t need to be pumping pollutants into the air as if there is no tomorrow. We need to take care of things, for HIS glory.

Global warming is purely a political scheme. Yes, the earth has warmed over the past 25-30 yrs. but it is not from our doing. The earth’s climate has always changed on it’s own.

Ask those that believe that we are responsible, what we did to end the Ice Age, or start it for that matter. Ask them what we did to cause the Medieval Warm Period, between the 10th and 14th centuries. Ask them why The Little Ice Age followed that. The earth warmed again after that. For those of you old enough, remember in the mid 1970s, a Time Magazine cover and article stated that scientists had concluded that we were headed for another Ice Age? That was only 30 yrs. ago. By the way, one major volcanic eruption could initiated a global cooling, that would last for years.

I would like to see Mr. Gore address these questions. The problem is, he will not allow himself to be questioned or debated by hardballers. Let’s see him on the Orielly Factor, instead of the Oprah Winfrey Show!

we had global warming back in George Washington’s day, and Mars has global warming too with no suvs.

well the tricky thing, because earth is so unstable in it’s average temperature, there really is no way to be sure. We know global warming exists (look at venus) and there are such things as greenhouse gasses. I don’t know if we are “causing” global warming or not, but I can say whether it’s true or not, I think christians should do a lot to really make sure we are “thinking green” as some would say and make sure we are taking care of things. Not to the extreme of harming humans, (like getting rid of refrigerators and doing away with all cars) but simply using moderation. If everyone makes even a SMALL change, you will get BIG results 🙂

That’s still just another article. We all know NASA has made some huge mistakes in the recent past, huh?

I only glanced thru the article because I’m short on time, but I didn’t see any explanations for the end of the Ice Age and the end of Little Ice age, and why the earth warmed in between each. Let me know if I missed it.

As far as the post on all of us being responsible and taking care of our planet (created by God), I couldn’t agree more.

Why in the world would you ask Al Gore the tough questions about Climate Change? Al Gore is a lawyer and a politician, the people you should be asking the tough question of are the scientists. Worse yet, why do you want Bill O’Rielly to do the interviewing? This is the basic problem, most people are less interested in facts than with punditry.

Ultimately, the scientific consensus is increasingly settling on the fact that the escalating levels of CO2 in our atmosphere are contributing to a global increase in temperatures. This is by no means the only engine driving the climate, far from it; Solar activity, precession of the Earth in its orbit, the wobble of the axial tilt, volcanic activity and the position of the continents can all have major impacts on the Earth’s climate. It is however, a factor of growing importance as the level of free CO2 in the atmosphere increases.

Regarding the apparent warming of Mars: Unlike the Earth, we can only examine its climate since the 1970s when the first robot missions reached the red planet. We know its warmer there now than it was then, but we also know that there were more dust storms on the planet back then which could account for the lower temperatures back then.

Is there a possibility that the scientists could be wrong? Of course there is, the results in science are always tentative and subject revision by the very nature of science. However, we have very solid reasons to believe that the Earth is warmer now than it has been for the last couple thousand of years at least and that is something that should cause everyone concern.

Did naturally occurring warming of the earth contribute to the increase of CO2, or did increased CO2 cause the warming? Which came first?
The last warming period was before there was increased CO2, what do you suppose caused that?
Water is a greenhouse gas also, and in fact there is more of that in the atmosphere than CO2. What should we do about that?
Anybody here drive a Prius? Do you know that over it’s lifetime it uses more energy and causes more environmental damage than a Hummer? Research what goes into the making of that battery to see what I mean.

Off my soapbox now.

I thought you were going to say that that it was the fault of the Catholic Church!

I was primed for that based on the thread title. 😃

Seriously, if the woman who wrote that quoted text is really having trouble telling the seasons apart, I would invite her to visit my neck of the woods. I guarantee, she’ll know the difference between “winter” and “summer”. 😃

As for Al Gore, I have no interest in what he has to say – until he actullay changes his lifestyle, instead of just “offsetting” it. Give the shirt off your own back, Al! I’m doing my part, but I have no intention of living under a bridge and eating out of garbage cans just for the sake of not driving a car (only way I can get to work).

Did naturally occurring warming of the earth contribute to the increase of CO2, or did increased CO2 cause the warming? Which came first?
Actually, both could occur. Increasing temperatures can cause the release CO2 from a variety of sources which can increases temperatures even more. Alternately, a large of CO2 release into the Atmosphere via any of a number of natural processes can start a natural increase in temperatures. The climate is an awfully complex system that doesn’t reduce well to chicken and egg scenarios. What the climate models do say is that if all other factors remain the same, increasing the level of CO2 in the atmosphere will increase global temperatures.
The last warming period was before there was increased CO2, what do you suppose caused that?
Well, if we are referring to the end of the Little Ice Age, it could be a variety of factors. I believe some scientists ascribe the Little Ice Age to an increase in volcanism, so a decrease volcanism would be a good proximate cause.
Water is a greenhouse gas also, and in fact there is more of that in the atmosphere than CO2. What should we do about that?

Regarding water. The mechanism for the atmosphere regulating the amount of water trapped is rather effective; its called rain. In contrast the natural process to reduce CO2 takes centuries (i.e. ultimately, the only truely effective natural method is for the plants that use CO2 to be turned back into fossil fuel).

I found the article which I believe you are referring regarding the Prius and the Hummer. I have serveral objections.
  1. It ascribes all the environmental damage from the Nickle plant in question to the Prius. It is quite clear that that plant had cause most of its environmental damage long before the Prius was ever made.
  2. It ascribes a vehicle life of 100,000 miles to the Prius and 300,000 miles to the Hummer. Now, most estimates for the Prius Battery Life are 130-150,000 miles. And even then, the battery pack could theoretically be replaced at a lower environmental cost than a new vehicle. Further, while the Hummer might have a theoretical life span of 300,000 miles, how many Hummers are going to be cared for well enough to get them that far. I suspect most cars of any make end up on the junk heap long before 300,000 miles.
  3. Finally, it compares the environmental impact of the vehicles after construction solely on fuel efficiency and on the assumption that the vehicles are going to be driven in a similar manner (alot of people in Prius’s tend to go out of their way to drive in a fashion that maximizes mileage). It ignores the fact that the hummer’s mass means potentially more damage will be done to the roads, that the hummer may well be driven off road which could potentially greatly increase the amount of environmental impact the vehicle might have.
In any case, I am not an emotional environmentalist. I have no problem with arguing that a car like a prius is not the most environmentally friendly. In reality, cars like the Toyota Corrolla and Honda Civic probably make alot more sense in the near term.
Off my soapbox now.

I believe the crux of the matter is that we don’t know what God’s plan is. Certainly, we know that God desires us all to go to Heaven, but we have no idea whether He intends for the world to get warmer and warmer and slowly cook us right now (if ever). It may be His intention that we work to fix global warming (if it exists).

Gore is the poster child, for this, he is the one that is representing global warming, and he is the one that is pretending to be the expert.

Why not Bill Orielly? He asks tough questions and is prepared to challenge rather than to agree. Another reason is that this debate would be on a public venue. Another tough interviwer would be fine, too.

I agree, though, scientists should be involved, it just wouldn’t be as much fun as Gore explaining why he can be one of the biggest abuser’s of his own cause, and expect us to ride our bikes to work.

I have watched and read the debates between sides, and I side with the sceptics. To me they make more sense, and they are more logical. However, I am not a scientist, but neither are vast majority of us.

I believe in another post you mention the earth’s warming or the “global warming” that took place could have been due to a variety factors. You are right, however, the earth still warmed without our doing.

Their have been at least 4 or 5 major ice ages and several smaller ones, yet each time the earth has warmed without our assistance.

Ironically enough, most scientists agree that the lack of greenhouse gases were the cause of those ice age’s, and the natural increase of greenhouse gases, that warmed the earth, spelled the end of those ice age’s. — It had nothing to do with SUV’s or flatulating cows.

I think I’ve hijacked this post and I appologize.
