Since Christ established the Church here on earth who has then decided what doctrines are to be followed and which are heresy? Men. In the beginning, the devotion to Mary was not prominent but then down the line it all of a sudden is. The Assumption of Mary wasn’t even a dogmatic belief of the catholic church until Vatican II from what I understand.
You’re incomplete here, and the points you miss are significant. Christ established a “Prime Minister” position that is protected by Christ from teaching error in faith and morals. So, the answer to that question of doctrines is ultimately God made the doctrines, through people… the Catholic doctrines don’t qualify as being man-made, as the other faith systems are. If you don’t understand this, then you don’t understand the Truth.
Religion is man-made, the Church & our relationship with Christ is a Godsend! 🙂 Christ is not a religion, He is a way of life and should be all the water our souls thirst for. He encompasses us and our Faith is more than just how we worship or serve Him, it is our very being - without Him we have no hope nor purpose for Life.
Wrong again, oh wayward one. Religions other than Catholic are indeed man-made. If you don’t understand the Scriptures, you don’t understand Christ. How can you truly love Someone you have false ideas of? One false idea is you apparently don’t understand that Jesus set up His Church as an infallible teaching institution with a “Prime Minister” position to be a symbol of unity and lead His Church with His protection from teaching error in faith and morals.

Your sister Church in the US allows this, SIA. It’s the truth even though your own Church does not accept the liberal viewpoint of homosexual ordaination.
Wanna talk about improper sexual acts? 107 convicted sex offenders against children who were Catholic clery have been prosecuted. Do they speak for the rest of the Catholic faith? according to your own theology here, they must.

Ahhhh, you want to open that can of worms?

Go here sport, and read about “PROTESTANTs” who have done just as much or more “wrongs”…reformation.com/ Pay particular attention to reformation.com/CSA/episcopalianabuse.html

I imagine that you have heard the age old adage: People who live in glass houses should not throw stones. ???

Its interesting that you have deleted references to your “religious affiliation” from your profile…but yet you still claim to have swum the “Thames”…so one must conclude you are still “Anglican/Episcopalian”… or have you yet again jumped ship and are now just a “common one man band of a church protestant”? You did call yourself a “protestant”, did you not?

No I do not hate you because I do not know you. Your beliefs are contrary to what Jesus taught in the beginning.
Manny, may God bless you and grant you peace. I think that, with all due respect, the statement above can allow me to say that many do not know more about Our Blessed Mother Mary, but this does not entirely mean they hate Her. It is in the same way that you do not hate “Singinbeauty” because you do not know her.

When one commits a sin, he/she hurts Jesus a lot, and in turn hurts His Mother. We are one of them. We do not love Her fully enough. Do we hate Her? I hope not.

SIA… I have a question for you…

If the “Anglican” Church is so different from the Catholic Church (Roman)…on the subject of the Blessed Virgin Mary… Why then are they so obsessed with naming Churches after her??

I realize that there are “splits” in the Episcopalian/Anglican community…but hey…??

I think that some, not all Protestants do hate Mary without realizing it. Look at the comments for this YouTube video, especially the ones made by the original poster, and you’ll see what I mean.

That video was originally called “Real Demon Photos,” but thankfully, the title was changed. His hateful comments still remain though. He misquotes approved Marian apparitions several times, slandering her by making it look like she commanded people to commit idolatry. Ironicly, my Catholic beliefs have recently experienced a major growth spert, in part because of this guy’s weak arguments.

People like this guy try to diminish Mary to almost nothing, and other Protestants agree with him. Do they even stop and think about who they’re slandering?

No doubt the producer of that garbage is one sick puppy.
Ironically, my Catholic beliefs have recently experienced a major growth spurt, in part because of this guy’s weak arguments.
I can relate to that!! 🙂 I can honestly say that the louder and longer the heretics scream and yell…the stronger my faith becomes.

This fool did not attempt to diminish Mary…he tried to “demonize” her. No, I don’t think they do…but if they agree with the “producer of that garbage”…they are not Christians, they are xtians, and confused ones at that… Apparently they didn’t bother reading their “Bibles”…

That is all very interesting. Why haven’t I seen any of it in the news? I suppose you are going to say that the media hates Catholics and lies too.

Whoa, wait a sec. I never said that Anglicans don’t recognize Mary as a saint or as the greatest woman who ever lived. Anglicans love Mary and honor her in the highest regard as they well should. Mary in fact is foremost of all the saints in Heaven. I never denied that my friend. The difference is that we do not feel it proper to give to Mary titles such as queen of Heaven and give her special veneration and such. Catholic catechism calls Mary the purest realization of the faith. We say that Jesus Christ is the purest realization of the faith. That doesn’t in any way take away from our honor and love of the mother of Jesus.

SIA,
Hello. I have to cry foul here. You know better than to imply that we Catholics give Mary a place reserved only for Christ. The Catechism is quoted below, with a little more context. We see that what it means is that Mary is the purest realization of faith in Christ. This makes sense, and is true. Who believed in Jesus the Christ more than Mary, whose faith never wavered?

CCC 149 Throughout her life and until her last ordeal when Jesus her son died on the cross, Mary’s faith never wavered. She never ceased to believe in the fulfilment of God’s word. And so the Church venerates in Mary the purest realization of faith.

If some Protestants do hate her, it’s not surprising - for Catholics seem at times to be dead set on making her into a Jesus-Holy Spirit combo, only female. Catholic exaggeration is to blame for a lot of the distaste for her, since it makes her into the rival, & so the enemy, of Christ.

If Catholics insist on calling her:
  • “daughter of God”
  • “spouse of the Holy Spirit”
  • “Saviouress”
  • “co-head of the Church”
  • “co-Redemptrix” [sic]
  • “Advocate”
  • “Mediatrix of all graces”
  • a quasi-incarnation of the Holy Spirit
then Protestants are going to object, & be right to do so.

Quasi-incarnation of the Holy Spirit? You’re kidding me, right? That’s an exageration of what you think Catholics believe about her. If she was any kind of incarnation of the Holy Spirit, it would have been IMPOSSIBLE for her to have given birth to Jesus Christ, because she couldn’t have conceived of Jesus by herself, without an external source, the Holy Spirit, filling her. What you’re implying, is that Catholics believe that Mary is the Holy Spirit in the flesh, making her part of the Trinity, making her God. This is pure garbage, and I consider it hate speach, and slander against Catholics.

I don’t buy blaming Catholics for ignorance and hatred of others. It is ignorant to claim that official Catholic teaching puts Mary in any way as a competitor of Jesus the Christ. She has unwavering faith in the promise of God, the actions of the Holy Spirit, and the salvific mission of her Son. She has tremendous faith in God, and that’s why we love her. The Church specificially teaches that any worship of Mary or putting her in a position reverved for God alone is idoaltry and gravely sinful. When the ignorance is overcome, there’s no reason to denigrate Catholicism, and no reason to hate the beautiful woman, full of grace and faith in our God, Mary, the mother of Jesus the Christ.

I agree, and I’ll take it even further. If anyone accuses the Church of elevating Mary to devinity, they’re slandering the Church, and accusing the Church of a grave, mortal sin.

Most Protestants who have issues with Marian doctrine of the Church do not realized it that when they preach this, they are doing it out of the hatred of Mary indirectly.
Manny,

At one point you said you were contemplating the the priesthood. I can ony hope that you will become a priest because if you do I am sure you will indirectly encourage many peope to leave your church with your bigotry.

You will make a great priest.

Please be thoughtful, and tread a little more carefully. When one calls a bigot anyone who claims one true Church started by Christ, then one also calls the head of that one true Church a bigot as well, as Christ only established one Church. Christ is the Head of His Universal (Catholic) Church. If you love Christ, I ask that you please consider apologizing to Him.

I understand that for those who think Christ started a loose band of thousands of churches with different and conflicting doctrine, it must be difficult to see the truth of one Church Christ built upon the Rock of Peter as anything other than bigotry. The truth may surprise you, then.

Enraptured by the spledor of your heavenly beauty and impelled by the anxiety of the world, we cast ourselves into your arms O immaculate Mary, mother of Jesus and our mother. God crowned you queen of the universe. O crystal fountain of faith, bathe our minds with eternal truths. O fragrant lily of all holiness, captivate our hearts with your heavenly perfume. O conqueress of evil and death, inspire us in deep horror of sin. O well beloved of God hear the ardent cries which rise from every heart in this year which is dedicated to you. Convert the wicked, dry the tears of the afflicted and the oppressed. Comfort the poor and the humble. Quench hatred. Sweeten harshness. in your name resounding harmoniously in Heaven, may they all recognize that they are all brothers. Happy with you we may repeat before YOUR throne that hymn which is sung today around YOUR altars. You are all beautiful o Mary you are the glory you are the joy, you are the honor of our people. Pope Pius XII

SIA,
Hello. What are you claiming here? We know your idea of worship is very differnt from ours, and what we would call honor, you might call worship. I really think you know better than to claim that the Catholic Church espouses worship of Mary as a competitor to God.

Second question - do you believe Pope Pius XII is saying this because Mary has these things outside of God’s gift of grace, or specifically because she is filled with love and worship of God, which is a shining example for all of us who like her, are not God?

Third question - We know that Christ did not break any of the Commandments, so that means He did honor His mother. If Jesus honored His mother, gave her to us as our spiritual mother, then what’s wrong with us honoring her as well?

Catholic exaggeration is to blame for a lot of the distaste for her, since it makes her into the rival, & so the enemy, of Christ.

Mm, I don’t know that I’d say Catholic exaggeration; rather, I’d call it Protestant misinformation. See, I was (operative word: WAS) a person I’d consider as hating Mary. I saw Her as no better than a baggie–a non-essential, just a mere means to an end, yadayadayada. She disgusted me, and it makes the pit of my stomach drop that I used to think that. 😦

Then, I educated myself as to what the Catholic Church REALLY teaches about the Blessed Mother. I learned that my former opinion of Her was in truth making God out who I wanted HIM to be. That is, I used to think that “oh, God needed a way to come to earth as a human, so He just randomly chose Mary, etc. etc.”. But to think that is to limit God on my own terms, does that make sense? So when I really took a good, honest look at the Blessed Mother I realized She was way, way, WAY more than I ever expected. And realizing that has made me love Jesus in a way I NEVER expected.

So when I give out my one-decade Rosaries to people I know are Protestant, I’m sure to tell them that Mary is absolutely no one to hate, despise or fear. . . because I speak from experience. :o

I suggest you go back and read Manny’s post. I didn’t call Manny a bigot because he wholeheartedly believes what his church teaches.

Let’s see if you can figure it out. I doubt you can but it’s worth a try.
