I agree TOTALLY with this sermon–but the issue that I’d like to discuss is how the Catholic Church has always taught what he says he longs for and demonstrates evidence of the suffering he describes as “Beautiful.” Further, the Catholic Church is, as he put it, “marked by the suffering of Christ”–and in that suffering and our response to it, is beautiful by the grace of God.

That would be a sight to see since Piper is a staunch Calvinist. But hey, God is sovereign.
 
For him to join the Tiber swimming team. Many people have done it, like Dr. Francis J. Beckwith. To see Piper or MacArthur swim the Tiber and “Come home to Rome” would be a sight to see.

Ah…👍 Although I think that would be great for him…that’s not what I was suggesting–merely that his sermon was pretty Catholic sounding, and if one looks at the history of the Church, we have many moments where God’s Beauty can be seen. Our detractors often like to point them out, but from the “marks of the suffering of Christ” perspective, our suffering is a gift.

BTW–I knew about Beckwith…I am interested in the book he’s writing about it.
 
Ah I gotcha. 😃 I would be interested in reading that book as well. I want to know what hurdles he had to overcome to go back to the Catholic Church.

I’m still facing some hurdles and wondering about the Catholic Church or the Orthodox Church myself.

I can’t remember where I read it, but I read his “working” title had something to do with humility. Also, he struggled with the Justification issue and false perceptions of Catholic views. Basically, I think he found out what the Catholic Church ACTUALLY teaches…not just what people say they teach. I just read this interview
