That is the only Catholicism doctrine i unable to comprehen which did not draw me to a Catholic Church. Divorce is a NO NO NO in the eye of God (unless we are talking about adultery), when choosing our marriage partner we lift up our marriage to his hand, so if you married someone who is violent and does not provide you with any security then you are telling God that he give you a wrong partner and you are pointing to him you don’t want this partner of yours given to you by him. Let alone all marriage, the communion to two Christian are God’s arrangement, rather then seeing all those practical needs and wants, might as well you start asking yourself in the first place have you pray about your marriage, have you committed your marriage into God’s hand anot!!!
The Catholic Church would never require a person to remain in a domestic situation where they or their children might be killed or harmed. IT does not grant them the right to Marry again after civil divorce, like the Episcopal and other Christian communities do.

Yes, I will agree with you on that. I admire that as well. I have to say though my church would not allow it either unless biblical.

God Bless you
If he was Baptized Catholic as a child and has not formally left the Catholic Church then your Marriage would most likely be invalid without his Catholic Bishops permission and Dispensation. He could possibly have grounds to have it investigated and declared Null (Annulled) through the Catholic tribunal if he were to seek this.

Hi,
How do you formally leave the CC? He has not been to church since he was 18 and he is now 43. He comes to my church on Chrsitmas only. Sometimes Easter.😦

Hi,
This is a first marriage for both of us. I tried to have the CC involved but it became too involved. I was graduating college the week before and I couldnt go through what the CC wanted me to do. I only tried because of my in-laws. I thought it would be nice for them to have the CC involved in the ceremony. It just became too cumbersome. So, no special dispensation from the church.

Another poster said that if he is not practicing then it is ok.

I should also be fair in my response that I do not believe the CC holds all the rights to whether someone can be validly married or not. I believe God holds those rights and I believe we are validly married.
I felt you should know where I stand up front.
God does hold all the rights and He granted their administration and protection to His Church, the Catholic Church.

Even if he is not a “practicing” Catholic he is still bound under the Canonical Laws of the Catholic Church.

Sometime we cannot have what we want, when we want it.
That is sometimes really a blessing in disguise.

We can’t determine the validlty of your Marriage here, only the Catholic Church Tribunal can do that. But just think. What are you going to say to Christ when He asks: Why did you live with that person to whom you were never Married for all these years? Because I wanted too, and it was nobody’s business but my own!

Let alone why in the first place you choose to marry someone who have hidden agenda rite?? If anyone who are spiritual enough and who devote themselve 100% to God, will God give them a partner that eventually will harm/kill them…God is a merciful God, he does not give his own creation to one another to harm/kill one another!!! How would he do that to his own creation. Provide we are talking about marrying someone who aim a Christ believer…So if out of the 100 Christian marriage, all this marriage are bound to violent, then is the church saying God make a mistake??
How would you justify this?? Marriage fail become we human allows devil to overcome us, if two strong spiritual pple comes together, nothing will prevail against the greatest gift that God have given. LOVE = Marriage!!

He writes a letter to his Bishop stating that he is leaving the Catholic Faith and why. There is a link on here somewhere to another site that explains the Canon Law regarding this formal act of leaving the Catholic faith.

You have this idea that God is in control of everything and does not allow us free will to do what we want even though it is not what He wants us to do. If that was true then there would be no evil in the world, there would be no sin since God would not allow us to sin, and we would not have a choice. We as Humans have a choice and we can choose to follow God or follow our own way which may not be God’s way. God does not make mistakes, but he does allow us too.

Hi,
Yes we did and we have.😃
You answer “We did have prior Marriages and followed the rules of the episcopal church.”

If I understand this correctly.

There are two different sets of Laws for Marriage.

The Church laws, for Catholics that is Canon Law. For other Christian communities it is called something else or sometimes they just don’t have any and it’s just whatever you want it to be.

The other is Natural Law or God’s laws, Like Marriage is one man and one woman, that Marriage is for life, that one cannot re-marry after divorce. Mark 10:2-12

Those laws apply to every human being no matter what denomination or even religion.

Hi,
Im sorry. This was a first marriage for both of us. I must have written it wrong:o

Bingo, you read my mind…Bless you.😉
As a Christ believer, God have given us free will to choose either to listen to him or disobey him (coz he is gracious) but why would anyone wanted to choose their own path since we call ourselve Christ believer right!!!. In this case why do we still choose to believe in him!!!. Might as well we choose to become a non believer and don’t have to be committment to Jesus, easy, no need to worry about commandment, what sins…etc
that is why when we come into marriage, it is a must for us to lift up our marriage to him, because we wanted his blessing more then we wanted our church blessing…

I was brought up in a tradition Asian family, thus marriage to me is once in a life time and divorce is bringing shame to the family, not to talk about i am a christian, marriage is even more sacred then what others can imagine…Probably American are more liberal towards marriage thus thinking is a little different from mine…

Sorry if i sound too offensive to you…but let’s pray that they shall be not annulment and not divorce in Christianity world…yeah!!!😃

Ok so both of you were free to Marry. The only thing possibly standing in the way of a valid Marriage is that he chose not to follow the laws of the Catholic Church, which he was still obligated to follow. This is something that can be corrected by what is known as Convalidation. He can seek to do this beginning with speaking with a pastor of the Catholic Church where you live.

…He is a baptized christian catholic that does not practice…
Are you playing on words? If he was baptized in the Catholic Church a dispensation is needed to have a Catholic Sacramental Marriage. Which means you and he have accepted a religious state which has many obligations and responsibilities. In this state you and he are ONE and perform a mission as directed by God. Non-Catholics are certainly capable of fulfilling these obligations, which may or may not occur - outside the Catholic Church. Fair enough? Some like to call “catholic” as Christian and “Catholic” as the Catholic Church.

Only the church has the full sacramental understanding of marriage. One of the issues at the Reformation was whether marraige should be considered a sacrament or not.

Despite rejecting the concept of marriage as sacrament, Protestants and other non-Christians have something very close. Most peoples recognise that it is a good thing for a man and woman to commit themselves to each other, publicly and permanently. Violations are minor - for instance Jews allow divorce, but it is very rare. Muslims are permitted more than one wife, but it is very uncommon in practise for a Muslim man to have more than one. The big exception is Western culture, where maybe we can say that secular notions of marriage are now so far from the church’s understanding, that we must reject the legitimacy of these unions.
