What do traditional catholics think of protestant “NDE’s” as shown on the protestant trinity broadcast network?
Do they in some way show that a non-baptized catholic can be saved?
What do you think of these people who experience a near death experience, yet refuse to convert to catholicism?
Why would it make a difference if a person was Protestant or Catholic? if the NDE experience is real, it’s real, if it’s not, it’s not, whether you are Protestant or Catholic.
As far as the part about being a non-baptized Catholic goes, if you aren’t baptized, you are not a Catholic or even a Christian; also they aren’t dead yet, they just had a NDE–so how could they be saved or unsaved?
As to what I think of those who have a NDE yet refuse to convert to Catholicism–I don’t think anything. For one thing, there is no way to prove a NDE is actually a supernatural thing–no one can prove that, and secondly, one converts to Catholicism because they believe it to be the Truth, not because of such a subjective thing as a NDE. To me, a NDE would fall into the category of private revelation, esp, into the category of non-Church approved private revelation, if they are real.
I actually had a patient who experienced a NDE when he was electrocuted. He descibed it to me in great detail. I believed he had such an experience, but whether it was just his brain being rattled from the electrocution, or a real supernatural experience, I don’t know. But there wasn’t anything in the experience that was specific to Catholicism and not Christianity in general. He believed the Light was Christ, that’s all.
