Eh…You’re Protestant. 😉
Nice response… what are you? Like… 3?

I know that sounds harsh but come on… if you want to contribute at least back up your opinion with an intelligent thought process…

Hi Singinbeauty,

I just discovered a way to end all the wars between all nations.

We are no longer Australians, Americans, Iraqis, Chinese, Italian, English, French etc…

From now on… we are now Earthlings! 👍

Do you get my point? It’s easier to be labelled with a religion. We can tell alot about you by the religion you wish to follow.

But it seems nowadays that “no-religion” is the new religion. “Relationship” is the buzz-word. It’s a convenient way to distance yourself from the bad history and hardships of a religion. But I’m not convinced that it can unite people.
Who said anything about ‘no religion’??? Last time I checked Christianity is a religion and a way of life.

And just to point out… sarcasm is not a great way to get a point across… as soon as I read the first half of your post it took a lot to read the last half. I almost stopped and went to the next response… But thanx for your 2cents!

Again,

Why don’t you come into unity as a Catholic?
The door is always open.

God Bless

I appreciate that… I really do… but because there are certain issues I have and while I don’t protest anything in the catholic church I still don’t believe it’s the road that God has for me to walk. And until I feel called I will continue to follow the path that God has chosen for me. I would rather live as honestly as I can then to join the catholic church and feel as if this is not where I am supposed to be.🙂

You should PM me, I have spent time in both and even though I do sometimes get excited and maybe lack a little charity in my posts I am sincere.

Catholicism is great, it is truly the best way to follow Jesus. I love it, no matter how crummy the people are. Jesus is the way the truth and the light, so if He did found a Church it must still be there waiting for you. He didn’t lie, He didn’t mess up, and He loves us enough to be able to find truth and know it.
Not just some spiritual unity but a true family.

Heck I bet my soul on it that it is truly Christianity and any person who seriously wants to follow Jesus needs to honestly check it out.

I know it might sound crazy, but if you don’t think it is for you then someone has lied to you and I urge you to check it out.

Catholicism is all about Jesus and Jesus is the center of our faith.

In Christ,
Scylla

Singinbeauty-

I would suggest reading and re-reading post #29 by whosebob.

Catholics use the term “Protestant” to refer to those who hold certain doctrines that arose out of the Protestant Reformation. While there are significant difference among Protestants, certain doctrines are consistently held (sola scriptura, sola fide, a rejection of the sacrificial nature of the Mass / the priesthood, etc.). I have never heard of a “non-denominational” church that was not firmly within the tradition of the Protestant Reformation.

I agree. The issues whosebob brings up are the core of the differences. If a Christian ascribes to the worldview described by whosebob, he is not just a generic Christian, but is a Christian of a distinctive type, whether they wish to put a label on themselves or not. Same with with Christians that are Catholics. If they embrace distinctively Catholic beliefs, they are Catholics, whether they like the name or not.

Again, like it or not, in our day and age when someone says they are a “Christian” the common assumption is that they are Protestant. This may be fine for Protestants, but since it would be misleading to let this assumption lie if the person happened to be a Catholic, some distinction has to be made.

Why? Unless the very thought of someone thinking you are ‘protestant’ is a horrible thing… It kinda sounds like we can’t lose the ‘title’ because that would mean catholics and protestants would have to be the SAME… The Lord in Heaven forbid! The very thought that catholics would have to lower themselves to someone thinking that they are equal to protestants is just ghastly…

Don’t think that I think this is what you are after but come on… read the quote and you can see what I am reading…

All I am saying is catholics and protestants ARE christians. To push to keep this whole ‘we are holier than thou’ attitude by refusing to take down the walls is not logical in my mind. God loves me just as much as He loves you, right?

I think I still prefer just plain ol’ Christian… 🙂
In the context of divided Christianity, there really is no plain vanilla. If one is committed to reformation theology, then one ought not to quibble about being identified by the term that sums up the fact: Protestant.

As a Catholic, I am certainly a Christian and – with just about everyone else on this thread – take umbrage when other Christians call themselves Christians and by that term exclude Catholics.

You are suffering as much from the Protestant abuse of the term Christian as from the distinction of Protestant and Catholic theology and ecclesiology – which are by no means trivial issues. Hey! We’ll call you anything but “late for dinner” when you join RCIA.

I think some of us Catholics already know that a lot of non-Catholic Christians hate the term Protestants, but we tend to use it anyway to emphasize that they are the ones who broke away from us and not the other way around.

It’s not a charitable way to react, but I think it is a bit of a put down to use the term Protestant. BUT it is much shorter than spelling out non-Catholic Christian, and we do resent using the term Christian by itself, because we believe ourselves to be the true Christians and resent others trying to lay claim to that term.

Up until the 1500’s ALL Christians were Catholics, there were no other denominations. So we see no reason why we should let go of the term Christian. We had it first and we refuse to surrender it.

And to be honest, it was an act of protest that several denominations broke away from the Church. IF you really want to stop being called Protestant the only sure way to do that is to become Catholic or to give up Christianity altogether, you could become Buddhist or Hindu. 😛

Catholics and Protestants are NOT the same. Evidenced among other things in the fact that you are reluctant to become a Catholic.

Yes, and he loves the child molester who lives near my neighborhood just as much as he loves us. What’s your point?
Wow… How do I put this… so protestants aren’t equal to catholics but they are equal to child molesters?

Lets get real folks… that quote right there was one to push a button. I am not going to bring up certain things that as a christian I don’t want to be connected to when it comes to the catholic church but I am still willing to view us as equal in God’s eyes. If you claim Christ I claim you. Plain and simple.

Please, no more button pushing comments because we all have that for each other. If you have something to say that is constructive and an intelligent response then go for it… otherwise keep your comments to yourself because they don’t belong here.

I doubt you even really believe that’s what the person was trying to say… Don’t put words in people’s mouths like that.

Look, if all you took from that comment was that somehow “protestants are equal to child molesters”, then trust me you missed the point completely. The person you quoted was making the point that God’s equal love for everyone is completely irrelevant to the subject at hand here.

Did ya even read the rest of my post or did you just jump on that opening statement? There was a bit of sarcasm in that sentence. I wish that the internet wasn’t so hard to see sarcasm but IT WAS SARCASM. Read the rest of my post. Maybe you will understand…

So then explain to me why protestants are considered equal to catholics as stated in a previous post.

Yeah, I read your entire post. You completely missed the point of that paragraph you quoted.
