Protestant posters: What attracts you?

I’m drawn by those posts and questions that will generate a serious conversation about what I seriously believe. I do not like to be baited or be drawn into a conversation just to have someone try to make an example of what I am saying as a “typical protestant” response.
Yeah the baiting gets old fast! I enjoy a good conversation where both sides can discuss their views and beliefs and everyone walks away sharper in their faith. Also the coffee and donuts are good too. 😃

I wouldn’t say “better”, but I will admit length can be a turn off for me.

I love quality posts though!
And I find that you seem to express many of my views…I guess I could 👍 or pile on a similar thought but I’d rather read.

I agree with you! If a long post with a variety of colored font as well as bolds, italics, etc., looks interesting I might print it out as I cannot read, learn, and inwardly digest (sorry, couldn’t resist a bit of Luther) on the computer I will probably print it out. It’s easier that way to be able to understand what the poster wanted to say.

I’d really much rather see the posts in the midst of an on-going conversation/dialogue so that myself and other posters can ask questions to clarify what may have been meant.

I’m here to discuss various aspects of Christianity with other Christians, and IMO Catholicism is just as valid a Christian tradition as Protestantism and Orthodoxy. I don’t personally identify with any of those three, but see myself as being at the midpoint between all three. That’s one of the things that drew me to Anglicanism, that it can accommodate that

I’m happy to talk about most any subject, but don’t try to convert me. It’s like trying to teach a donkey to sing: it won’t work, and it annoys the donkey.

I read it all, and have for months, maybe a year now. I post not at all, largely because I have nothing to contribute to the Catholic threads (I am here to learn). I know nothing of the Catholic church except what I have read here and seen in daily mass.

I have posted a bit in some mormon threads… Seems most of those who would know something about mormonism have an axe to grind against it. I will probably try to give a more objective perspective on mormon threads as my rejection didn’t come with hate. 🙂

To our “separated brethren” in Protestant communities,

I’d like to ask you all a question concerning your forum participation: What kind of posts are you drawn toward (and hence presumably more likely to respond to)?
Multi- faith dialogue. Part of what draws my interest to Catholic Answers is the challenging debates and strong points of view put forth by some of the dominant Catholic, Lutheran, Anglican, Quaker and Evangelical posters. They inspire me to research certain matters and I always wind up knowing more about any given topic than before I visited the site. My years of lurking have produced ( I hope) some decent fruits.

👍

I tell my friends that I’m haunting the forums… 😃

It’s addictive, it is.

I catch myself arguing in favor of the Catholic POV with my Lutheran friends. Your plan must be succeeding.

These discussions are absolutely fascinating! 😃
These comments are great to hear. 👍 I think the Catholic faith should be a home for all Christian faiths to fellowship! The genuine Catholic and Genuine non-Cat Christian will grow together in love.

Awww I love you too Michael! :D:p

We should all find fellowship in one another. Even when we are in a heated debate of why Faith Alone is true! lol

That’s true. I think every serious person of faith, cognizant of Our Lord’s Divine Commission, would want to share that faith ( and, perhaps, their particular expression of it :p) so that others can learn that there is more to life than perhaps what secularism offers. Of course, conversations get heated because everybody’s sharing what’s dearest to them, what they’ve staked their lives and their souls on… what may be a vital part of doctrine to one may mean nothing to another ( who* wouldn’t *get indignant at such a thought?) and things get a little tense. It is good that Catholic Answers has provided a forum that we can all express our points of view and I think they’re quite generous in their encouragement of us non- Catholics to express our own beliefs and values.

This made me LOL. :rotfl: I wanted to follow it up with, “This is most certainly true.” 🙂

… or be drawn into a conversation just to have someone try to make an example of what I am saying as a “typical protestant” response.
Indeed, I think forums are more prone to “gotcha”-style postings (e.g. “So-and-so said such-and-such and he/she is Catholic [resp. Orthodox, Protestant] so there!”) than just about any other media out there.
