Right on David!! So many Catholics feel that they must judge others who don’t worship as they do. The Bible says to work out our own salvation:shrug: with fear and trembling. Not someone elses
Hi Tweetymom!

The Bible says lots of things! I think it would be a mistake to characterize biblical teaching as “we should worry about our own salvation and not worry about anyone else’s”. Such an attitude is selfish and unbiblical. Scripture also tells us that if we bring back a brother from the error of his ways that we have saved him…James 5:19-20
My brothers, if anyone among you should stray from the truth and someone bring him back, he should know that whoever brings back a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sinsI think you (and the poster you were responding to) bring up a great point - we should not judge others, but that is not what this particular thread is about. It’s about how we are to address the “error of his way” and bring him back to the Truth, the whole Truth, and nothing but the Truth. The question is not *whether *we (as a Church and as an individual) should address others in error, but how we are to do it in a loving, Christ-like way.

Blessings!

Beats me! I just go by what the Bible says . Just because you are baptiszed doesn"t me you are saved.😉
And just because someone claims to be Catholic doesnt mean they are…😉
And just for the record, can you show me where the bible says that someone who was baptized but wasnt saved??? Chapter and verse please, I dont need an explanation from you on what the Bible is saying, I simply want to see where it says someone can be properly baptized and not be saved.

you are so right! I am a born again Catholic; And yes we are to help people come to Christ, but we each have to work it out with God:)

Well maybe and maybe not thats not for me to say
It’s difficult for us to understand what you are replying to if you don’t use the quote feature. Here’s my primer:

How to use the Catholic Answers Forum Quote Function

If you want to respond to something that someone else posted, you can simply hit the “Quote” button on the right…not the “Post Reply” button on the left. Simply begin typing after the text that the forum automatically copies for you. That’s what I did at the beginning of this post above.

However, if you want to insert your comments into the middle of something you are quoting, you have to manually insert square brackets. Here is the original passage I want to comment on:

Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was black as soot, and everywhere that Mary went, his sooty foot he put.

In order to show you what you need to do, I have to use a different set of brackets for illustrative purposes only. I’ll use { and } instead of and ] so that you can see where the brackets should be located, and I’ll insert my comments in red text.

{quote}Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was black as soot,{/quote} I’m inserting my comments here in red. {quote}and everywhere that Mary went, his sooty foot he put.{/quote}Hope this helps.

Now, wherever you see the { or } you have to actually use a square bracket or ]. So the paragraph above comes out like this:
Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was black as soot,
I’m inserting my comments here in red.
and everywhere that Mary went his sooty foot he put.
Hope this helps.

One more thing: the quote function will automatically insert the name of the person to whom you are replying so that person can find your response more easily.

I think the key word here is properly 🙂 Not everyone who is baptised does so for the right reason, except of course infants, but there comes a time when we must all decide how we want to follow Christ and some even those baptised don’t:shrug:

So there actually is no verse which says baptized people arent saved? I already knew that, I just wasnt sure whether you would admit it - now I know that too. 😉
I am also well aware that some - many - of those who are saved through Baptism ultimately choose to reject Christ and follow the paths of self and worldly desires. Did you think the Catholic Church taught otherwise??? The concept of being saved “once and for all time” - during our earthly journey is an error of Protestantism, not Catholicism.

I am a Catholic and I have met a LOT off Catholics who think that they are saved because they were Baptised at birth, and confirmed and that is all there is to it. But not so. read Matthew 26:31-46. So there is a lot more tto do than get baptised 🙂 God Bless

👍 I forgot to add…excellent job using the quote feature! 👍

Yes it is sad. Its no different than those who think that a moment of “believing in Jesus as Lord and confessing with their mouth” is all it takes to guarantee entrance into Heaven. Truly sad…

I agree with you. Can I make a suggestion? It would be better to speak of salvation and going to Heaven separately - as distinct events. Baptism does save you, so do other things. But simply because we have been saved does not mean we will REMAIN saved and go to Heaven when we die. This is something that not all Christians agree upon, and when they say “I’m saved” they mean that not are they saved presently, but that they are guaranteed to go to Heaven whenever they die. So I would be careful to articulate the difference between being “saved” and “inheriting the kingdom of God”.
We must continue to choose Christ and reject self and “take up our cross daily and follow him”, forgive others, and persevere to the end in love in order to remain united to the Vine and claim our inheritance as children of God. This reality is reiterated throughout the NT, but one verse that clearly addresses the need to choose love and avoid sin in order to inherit the kingdom of God is 1Corinthians 6:9-10. Another that speaks of the need for ongoing forgiveness of others in order for our own sins to be forgiven (a prerequisite of going to Heaven) is Matt 6:15 “But if you do not forgive others their transgressions, neither will your Heavenly father forgive yours.”

Blessings…

:thumbsup:We do agree and you are so right!!!:D:)

whew:shrug: Sorry to say that you all are quite a bit confusing to say the least. Instead relying on the law of the Catholic Church some of you need to read what the Bible says about salvation and how to attain it:thumbsup:
Catholics rely on Church teaching for guidance. That is what being Catholic means. If your personal interpretation of scripture is not in agreement with Catholic teaching, your interpretation is wrong not Church teaching.

Maybe if you searched the Scriptures you wouldn’t need someone to tell you what it means:thumbsup: God Bless

You are describing the heresy of sola scriptura. You are way out of line encouraging Catholics to ignore Church teaching. If you personally believe that all the answers are in scripture and the other teaching an tradition are unnecessary, that is your problem. Just don’t present it as acceptable Catholic behavior.

Most Protestant denominations do not teach once saved always saved theology. If they did there would be no purpose in having regular meetings, reading the bible, tithing, etc.

Amen Amen brother, you are so right not all Protesant teach that beleif that is a misnomar:thumbsup:

I think that, very often, people, Protestants and Catholics, forget that if you intend to evangelize the first thing you should do is tell someone what they have right. Then, and only then, is it appropriate to move on and correct the errors.

For example, before a Catholic launches into a discussion about Mary with a Protestant it would serve both people well to understand what they agree on. Jesus was born of a virgin. Mary was chosen by God to be the earthly mother of His Son. etc. Once these commonalities are understood, we can move to discussing the differences.

I think this is what the Catholic Church has done with the language they use in referring to Protestants. The Catholic Church still teaches that the Protestants are wrong. However, the Catholic Church now affirms that one should know exactly why and where the Protestant is wrong, affirm where they are correct, and then begin correcting where they are wrong.

This doesn’t water down the teachings to make them more palatable. (For crying out loud you still incur latae sententiae excommunication for reading anything the reformers wrote.) It makes the teachings more palatable by affirming where the other person is correct, by showing the other person respect and dignity through taking the time to understand them and their beliefs.

Okay, let the beatings begin 😃
