Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me.

Mathew 5:11

'nuff said ?
Yes, indeed! It was this Biblical verse that kept going through my head every time I read anti-Catholic literature. It tormented me so bad I decided to do some objective research. Now, I’m a Catholic!

Concerning the “bent cross”, the origin of this crucifix is that the weight of Jesus’ body would have bent or bowed the vertical and horizontal beams if they were taken from slender trees.

Of course, we understand theologically that Jesus bore our sins upon the cross, so the weight was greater than a mere 180 lbs.

There is some artistic symbolism at work here.

This imagery is evident in Protestant thinking, also. The National Cathedral in Washington, DC was deliberately bowed by the architect. If you stand in the center of the main altar and look down the length of the Church, you will see that the doors in the western end of the Church are exactly six feet off center.

Hope this helps. :tiphat:

So much of the stuff posted on here is total nonsense. It seems to be completely in reverse.

e.g. a triangular shaped frieze in a 10th century cathedral, symbolising the Trinity will be represented as “Masonic” because 800 years later somebody put a triangular shape on the dollar bill, and 150 years later somebody else decided that this was a masonic temple.

Is there any evidence that satanists ever used a bent cross to mock Christianity? Surely the slight forwards bend of the Pope’s cross also represents the shepherd’s crook, the Pope being the chief earthly shepherd of Christ’s flock. I don’t think I ever heard this one until somebody noticed that JPII’s cross looked slightly different and spawned their own little conspiracy theory based on personal bigotry and no evidence.

Or, someone will look at the Papal crest and say that the crossed keys and crown look like a skull and crossed bones (itself a Christian symbol before the German army’s aristocratic officer corps stole it, and only later portrayed as the ‘Jolly Roger’ in pirate movies released around the time of World War I) and that the skull and crossed bones resembles a pentangle, which has only been a pagan symbol since Gerald Gardner founded Wicca in the 1930’s.

It’s just nonsense. Has anyone actually done any serious research into any of this?

Even the more serious research, such as the idea of the upside-down crucifix mainly comes from the works written by or for James VI & I, the Protestant king who introduced witch burning to England from Scotland and commissioned the King James Bible. Much of the ‘research’ was based on hearsay and anti-Catholic superstition, and much more on James’s own opinions, which were simply accepted as Truth because he was King and head of the church.

Can anybody actually provide any serious allegations?

“He that dwelleth in heaven shall laugh at them: and the Lord shall deride them.” :rotfl: Psalm 2:4
Think of it this way: people love trying to get rich of of the catholic church by re-packing this stuff over and over and over.

Protestants (more of the wacko fringe element) not serious Protestant have used this stuff to lead seminars, write books, make movies, start cults and folks that fall for this stuff, usually conspiracy ttheory Art Bell types keep these huxters in business.

It’s almost useless to show them what they think is a satanic element is something that dates way back in the churches tradition, they NEVER change their view. I use to get really offended by this stuff, now it does not phase me a bit, it’s simply not worth my time since it’s so shameful and decietful.

1 John 4:6 We are of God. He that knoweth God, heareth us. He that is not of God, heareth us not. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

The upside down cross allegation, which I haven’t seen anyone talk about yet, comes from this picture of Pope John Paul II:

The reason the cross is upside down is because St. Peter was martyred in Rome and his cross was upside down (I can’t even imagine the pain that he had to endure). It’s relevant to that chair since the Papal lineage started with St. Peter.

Thanks DL82,

I often have to listen to this nonsense with my Pentecostal, Born-Again relatives. It is called Common Sense. Something many people lack.
I have to listen to this from folks claiming to be Catholic! And not once have they put these theories forward in a civilized tone of voice. They have always bellowed. And shortly after the masonic plot theories are aired, the long list of imaginary grievances against the Church come out – also bellowed.

I have developed a mental switch. Now when all this weird stuff comes out, I just switch it off.
