I do not know what part of the protestant you refer to the Angilcan acknowledges and says the Rosary although a lot of Anglicans do not know this.Even some priests of the Anglican Church .I do not know about the American arm of the church but Ido know the rosary is part of the church and so are icons which leads people to pray and are not worship. The Angilcan church
has accepted that its reformed catholic not protestant I have always tried to tell this .Protestant churchs do not accept this but if anyone wishes to use the rosary as long as they the have reverance for I cannot see any problem with it,:o

The problem is, many of our Protestant brethrens in the Philippines still did not understand the true essence of the Rosary…it seems many of you here are agreeing to the point that The Rosary is a good prayer for us Christians…as I read the articles in Catholic.com, it states there that the center of that prayer is Jesus…what a wonderful explanation…🙂

Mama loves all of her spirutal children. Why should she, or her Divine Son, object to anyone, Catholic, Orthodox or Protestant, joining her in prayer through the Rosary?

You mentioned you are housebound, otherwise, all you need to is stop by a Catholic church and they’d likely have a pamphlet on how to say the rosary right there in the foyer of the church - free-

however, if you can’t get out, you might call a nearby Catholic church and I’ll bet they’d be happy to bring over a pamphlet that lists all the different mysteries out for you. The mysteries basically follow the life of Christ, from His birth all the way to His ascension and the Pentecost…

There are also lots of websites outlining the mysteries if you google it.
I’m sure a call to the Church would also find someone who would be more than happy to take some time once or twice a week (or more) to come and say the rosary with you. Also you can order cassettes or cd’s with lovely rosary prayers.

The prayers of the Rosary are all beautiful prayers.

It starts with the Apostle’s Creed, which some Protestants recite already. This is a list of the things we believe in as followers of Christ.

Then we say the Lord’s Prayer, again a scriptural prayer familiar to all Christians.

The Hail Mary is the one that some people get hung up on. It is a beautifully scriptural prayer asking our Mother to pray for us.

Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with you. (The words of Gabriel to Mary at the annunciation) Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. (The words of Elizabeth to Mary when she went to help her cousin) **Holy Mary, Mother of God, **(Her title and acknowlegement of her position as queen mother) pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. (A simple and direct request for her to bring our petitions to the attention of our Lord) Amen (I believe)

We know that Mary can pray for us because we just stated that we believe in life everlasting when we prayed the Creed. We know that Mary is alive forever in Heaven and that “the prayers of an honest man availeth much.”

We also pray the Glory Be. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Another prayer that gives glory to the Three in One, the Godhead, for ever.

Many people add the Fatima prayer. Oh, my Jesus, forgive us our sins and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of your mercy. This one is another one that points straight to Jesus as the One who forgives sin and shows us the way to the Father.

None of these prayers are blasphemous. Reciting these prayers in love does not result in blasphemy, even for non-Catholics. I encourage you to say the Rosary when you feel prompted to do so. God will see your sincere desire to please Him and will welcome your efforts.
Background: I was raised Southern Baptist. My dad was Baptist and mom non-practicing Catholic. Grampaw took it on himself to educate me in the faith when he could. So, I always kind of had a problem with the Hail Mary, and Marian devotion in general, especially living in the Hispanic southwest, where Marian devotion is so strong that it often seems SHE is believed to be the Savior (sorry, but it’s true). Anyways, i loved the rosary and wanted to pray it like Grampaw did, so I would just replace the Hail Mary’s with the ‘Jesus prayer’ (Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on us) Then, after better coming to understand the Role of Mary, it was easy to gladly proclaim, “Hail Mary!”

Go nuts. Use your fingers. Use a CD, use the Digital Rosary. I have a bracelet with ten beads and cross. I actually think most Catholic have a disturbing collection roasaries, but all of ours tell neat little stories

One of my faves is one where the “Our Father” beads as I like to call them are actually little pyramids with the name of the Mystery for the decade and when your supposed to say it (Day of the week holiday whatever). It’s a handy litle gadget for when my brain goes all mushy and I don’t feel like hunting up a book.

I posted before that my Husband is Muslim, and that we pray together. I can get through a decade in about the same amount of time it takes him to do two full rakat. (I hit the Apostles Creed, three hail mary’s, Our father and Glory Be while he’s making wudu beforehand) And since there’s five prayers a day for him, and five decades ona rosary, things work out really well.

He loves my roasaries and loves hearing the stories for each one: My First Communion Rosary, my Vatican Rosary, My Confirmation Rosary, The Rospetal Rosary from the vigil for my Grandmother after she passed away, My Fatima Rosary, My Japan Rosary (Has cute little koi glass beads…very chic. Though I was hopeful for a Hello Kitty Rosary). They all have a little story, but none of them are necessary to my ability to pray the rosary. They’re just markers.

I’ve heard of people using pen and paper, their fingers, whatever’s available. It’s all about intent. I love it because it’s an active prayer, something done with intent and purpose, and when you do it enough, you forget that you’re saying the words and just pay attention to the msytery (This also happens when I’m bleary eyed at 5 am for Fajr, since I’m not entirely sure I’m articulate at that hour).

Lots of religions have a similar repititous prayer sequence. And no one fusses when you take a moment to cross the boundaries and show the similarities. Remember John Paul II prayed at a Mosque. You think God didn’t hear him because he was in the wrong building? Then dont think God’s not going to listen because you need to reflect on some of the Mysteries to fill your own heart.

I was Protestant when I started praying the Rosary. Now I’m Catholic! 😃

I’d just always wanted a Rosary for some reason. The local Catholic church (now my home parish) was having a religious articles sale and I bought one there. Then once I had it, I didn’t know what to do with it! lol. Found instructions online at newadvent.com I believe. It’s a beautiful beautiful prayer. I love the Blessed Mother and love spending time with her and her son.

Getting to know Jesus by meditating on events in his life with Mary as a guide. 👍

I am totally going to suggest this to my Baptist friend who unknowingly got a tattoo of praying hands holding a rosary (he thought it was a necklace).
If he is going to have a rosary tattoo he might as well know how to say one.!🙂

I generally avoid this subject as it often causes much argument. But since I’m not willing to argue it I’ll post and leave it at that.
As God began dealing with me about the Sacraments, I was the pastor of a independent Baptist Church. I began conversing with a priest of a Charismatic Catholic Church which had an open communion to all properly baptized believers. When I received the Eucharist for the first time, I realized I was not a baptist. The things I began to realise as truth caused me great pain and I became very angry at God as my beloved doctrine was being torn apart.
realising that I didn’t have it all figgured out, I studied and found myself examining things prior unpalatable to me. A Roman sister I knew was on a forum I was on and being attacked for her views in a Marion thread. I privatelt asked some very hard question of her and it ended up with a simple challange: “Ask God if He objects in prayer and when He doesn’t, try it for thirty days in sincerity and see if it produces good fruit or if it’s a waste of time.” I didn’t reply but I recieved a Rosary and a book on how to pray the Rosary and finally accepted the challange.
Dear sister, the Rosay is much more than asking Mother to interceed. it contains prayers to father as well but even more, it causes us to meditate on the life of Christ. In fact, one doesn’t need to pray to rosary to ask the Blessed Virgin for intercession. The Rosary is so much more than that. I pray the Rosary without fail every day just as I pray my Office prayers. The Rosary produces much good fruit and by no means would it be blasphemous to honor the Father, Christ and Mary by praying the Rosary being non-catholic. But be forewarned, it may cause you to seek into things catholic and cause other protestants to cause you grief. You’ll be labeled an idol worshipper and even a heathen by those who don’t understand it.
I’d advise getting a good book on praying the Rosary first. as it’s more than words. The meditation upon the Roses are most important and something even the staunchest protestant would be in agreement with.
“The Secret of the Rosary” by Saint Louis DeMonfort, Montfort publications, would be my suggestion. It’s not the short prayer many think it is.

Amen. It will change you.
As to the question of how many catholics pray the Rosary?: Not all by far. some only pray “Hail Mary” and "Our Father’ outside the Rosary such as in pennence ect. It’s not like a requirement.

There are web sites for Protestants saying the Rosary - here are some of them:

ecumenicalrosary.org/

amywelborn.typepad.com/openbook/2005/01/rosary_chic.html

moriel.org/articles/discernment/catholicism/rosary_not_just_catholic_ritual.htm

As has been discussed, the Rosary is a well rounded ‘mini-gospel’ - mediating on how Jesus came to us (Joyful mysteries); his ministry (Luminous mysteries); his passion (Sorrowful mysteries); and his triumph (glorious mysteries).

One does not have to be Catholic to meditate / think about God’s salvation plan!!!👍

Tia…offensive to God and the Blessed Virgin? No, no, no…not offensive at all. The rosary is the Gospel. The rosary is Christocentric…He is the center of the rosary…our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Our Father…“Lord, teach us to pray.” Gospel
The Annunciation…“Hail, full of grace.” Gospel
The Visitation…“Blessed is the fruit of thy womb.” Gospel

Just look at the mysteries of the rosary:
The Agony in the Garden
The Scourging
The Crown of Thorns
The Carrying of the Cross
The Crucifixation
The Resurrection
The Baptism
The Presentation in the Temple
and more…all gospel.

No Tia, nothing wrong in praying the rosary. There is power in the rosary.

My mother is Methodist and taught us the Rosary as children, God hears all our prayers, and you would honor His Mother by asking her intercession. May Our Lady Bless you.

I’m an Anglican and I pray the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet daily. I do NOT recite the ‘Hail Mary prayers’, even in their Protestant form, but substitute other traditional prayers in their place. Also, I do not meditate on the ‘Assumption of Mary’ nor on the ‘Coronation of Mary’ (the 4th and 5th of the traditional Glorious Mysteries, respectively). I meditate instead upon the ‘Believer’s Eternal Rest in Christ’ and the ‘Second Coming of Christ’. And, I conclude the Rosary with the ‘Prayer of St. Francis’, rather than with the Hail Holy Queen. These are minor variations, designed to make the Rosary more directly related to Jesus Christ and His relationship to His people. So yes, Protestants CAN say the Rosary, either in it’s traditional form or in a form modified to suit their personal tastes. See also the following:

ecumenicalrosary.org/how_to_pray.htm

Keep in mind that the Dominican Rosary is NOT the only form of Rosary extant, although it is of course most widely-known and used.

Well, what do you think? Would it be ok or would it be blasphemous?

For some reason, I’ve lately been feeling the urge to do so. There have been a lot of really life-changing events recently–my 10-year-old niece died of cancer in July, my sister (who is her grandmother) is having a very hard time with it, and I’ve just undergone major surgery and will have to do so again; in fact it looks like my own health is starting to deteriorate and I’m not even 60.

Does anyone think it would be offensive to God and the Blessed Virigin if I started praying the rosary? And please tell me what the reasons are for your opinions.

TIA
I thank you Father for illuminating the heart and soul of Sandi.

The rosary prayer will console you and grant you unknown graces.

My heart is joyful for you because you have not come to feel this way about the rosary on your own - it is the Mother of God herself that has called you. She will bring you in closer communion with Her Son Jesus.
I have always preached and promoted the praying of the rosary to my protestant aquaintances. They would give me a strange look and tell me that they are protestants and I would tell them, “The rosary is not just for catholics”.
Pray it daily, meditate its mysteries, contemplate its meaning and open your soul to the graces that the Lord will grant you.

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum

If “Bible Christians” would just look at the whole Bible and not just selected passages out of the expurgated Protestant versions…they’d be Catholics.
AMEN!!!🙂

This was a wonderful thread – I learned a lot! Thank you!

I gave a protestant friend a plastic rosary that I picked up at church. She prayed it for the first time today, and she said she was crying by the end of the first decade, because of how real it was to her. “It felt right,” she said. Hopefully she keeps it up!
