Do Catholics see any similarities between Protestants and other religions? Specifically Mithraism. I ask because I see lists on how the RCC and pagan religions are similar all the time and I am wondering if those same simlarities apply to Prots. Thanks and God bless.

Personally, I don’t but I have never given it much thought. I know that some have compaired some denominations with some heresies. I am not sure that it would allow for better communication to do either one.

I think Islam and Fundamentalism have some things in common: iconoclasm, opposition to alcohol, tobacco etc.

I have not compared or thought much about this as it is not really important; it is not a good factor to be used to draw conclusion on heresy.

I look at two different paintings by 2 different authors – they both use the same colors but the painting are totally different. I never question myself if the two authors are actually one just because they happened to have the same choices of colors for their paintings.

Gnostics…definately Gnostics.

Not the good and decent Protestants, but the hellfire darn be all Catholic, Mary ain’t special, Solaists who feel that they don’t need any Roman Pope to tell them what to do…just their friendly neighboryhood Ted Haggard.

👍

Catholics definately have a ton in common with Islam.

I’d say that the Protestant Radicals have alot in common with the Muslim Radicals (and, let’s throw in the Catholic Radicals).

I’d have put Catholic morality closer to Orthodox Jewish than Muslim: stricter on sexual matters involving heterosexuals but not so strict with alcohol (provided it’s in moderation). Also images are more accepted (Jewish temple etc.), though not sure if this is still practiced. Then again protestants often don’t have festival days, fasts and pilgrimages whereas Catholics and Muslims both do, so it works both ways

Agreed. The last thing that would help ecumenism would be to keep calling them heretical and associate them with another religion. That is a road that leads away from “true ecuminsim”.

You know, I think that the anti- something mentality comes from one of three mindsets
  1. Not knowing what the other person teaches, so you “hate” what you think they teach
  2. Not knowing what your own group teaches, so you feel the need to hate
  3. Just being a hateful person
You see alot of the first in some non-Catholics, you see a lot of the second in Catholics, and you see the third in everyone.

Most Muslims I know smoke like chimneys.

That has nothing to do with the subject of this thread. Thanks for going away.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I am looking for more of similarity to the more European pagan religions I guess. Similar to the way that Rome is always compared to Mithraism. Thanks for the (name removed by moderator)ut so far!

Most muslims I know smoke like chimney also lol.
