Anyone ever notice
That there seems to be a lot of Protestant songs -
within the Catholic hymnal book ?

Anyone know why -
or is it just because their fun songs šŸ˜‡

I’ve heard a hymn by Martin Luther, of all people, sung at Mass. At very least since the '90s I’ve seen Protestant hymns in Catholic hymnals.

What is your point? If the song is not going against Catholic teaching, then so what?
ā€œAmazing Graceā€ was written by an Anglican.

My apologies! Ok, so I was clearly being a wee bit sensitive šŸ˜›

Well, one of my points - would have to be -
You WONT hear Catholic songs sung at bible thumper churches.
Such as :
ā€œ I am the bread of life - he who eats of me shall not hunger -
And I will raise him up, I will raise him up, etc ā€œ šŸŽ¶šŸ™‚

And Kathkeen18 meant you - DeMontfort ! ( lol )

That’s a very good point and one I didn’t think of until now. One of my favorite hymns is ā€œA Mighty Fortress is Our Godā€ by Martin Luther, so I guess I shouldn’t say anything.

As long as a hymn does not contradict the teaching of the Church, I do not think it matters where it came from.

:pray:for your wife.
I may have come off as defensive. I apologize.

Thanks šŸ™‚ Hopefully I’ll have word soon she’s being discharged and on her way home…

You know Cajun, that’s interesting -
At my church, I only hear a certain amount of hymns -
I’d say they repeat 20 songs, over the last 2 years, let’s say.

I should bring home a hymnal !
And listen, on YouTube, each day, a new song.
They do say singing, is close to praying !

Joyful, Joyful we adore thee
How great thou art
Christ be our light

What’s a Catholic hymnal? I don’t think I have ever seen one. Does anyone have examples?

Once a hymn has been incorporated into a Catholic hymnal with the blessing of a Catholic Bishop, it is a Catholic hymn. Period.

That brought tears to my eyes, Cajun. 😪

I’m not that good -

Although this one once terrified me . . . there we were, at the annual outdoors Mass for a Franciscan parish . . . you know, the followers of that chap known for preaching to animals . . . and there, in mosquito season, they start singing ā€œtaste and seeā€ . . .

🤣

That’s not so. When I converted I recognized several songs from a ā€œbible thumperā€ church.

Examples of both Catholic and Protestant hymns

At the Name of Jesus
Crown Him With Many Crowns
Glorious Things Of Thee Are Spoken
Angels we have heard on high
Faith of Our Father
Holy Holy Holy Lord God Almighty
Jerusalem the Golden
My God, How Wonderful Thou Art
Sweet Angel of Mercy
The First Noell
When Morning Gilds the Sky
There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy
We Gather Together

The artificial ā€œdigitally recreatedā€ bell tower at the local church was playing A Mighty Fortress is Our God šŸ˜›
